Welcome to our school. We are an all-age generic special school serving South Leeds. We cater for a wide range of learning needs from moderate learning difficulties; severe learning difficulties; complex and multiple learning needs to Asperger’s and Autism. Some students have additional needs – physical; medical; speech and language; visual, hearing or sensory impairment.

Many pupils are based on our main Broomfield site and in addition some within our mainstream partnership sites - Windmill Music Federation and Rodillian Academy, where opportunities for mainstream inclusion are maximised, if appropriate.

Our strapline is ‘Investing in Individuals, Transforming Lives’ reflected in our aim to provide a nurturing and stimulating school environment in which all pupils are encouraged to adopt a healthy lifestyle and feel happy, safe and secure. Our pupils demonstrate a strong sense of community and fairness for all. We endeavour to help our pupils take their place in society and be tolerant, understanding and respectful of the rights of others.

In return we expect pupils to work to the very best of their ability, in order to make the most of the opportunities that we offer. We believe in a personalised approach to enable all of our pupils to achieve their individual outcomes based on their aspirations for the future.

We are a growing and developing school.  We have over 200 young people from 2-19 years on roll.  We have recently undergone a programme of refurbishment including a new building that opened in September 2015, a community internet café, a health and beauty suite, a state-of-the art creative/sensory room, sunken trampolines and an outdoor inclusive adventure playground.

Vision & Mission Statement

Investing in Individuals – Transforming Lives

Because we believe that investing in individuals helps us to transform lives, we strive for excellence in all aspects of school life, including:

  • the quality of the learning which pupils' experience
  • the quality of the teaching that we provide
  • the richness of the environment in which pupils learn
  • the quality of opportunity we provide to all, regardless of ethnicity, gender or disability

Every child, whatever their background or circumstances, will have the support they need to be healthy,  stay safe, enjoy and achieve, and make a positive contribution.

Broomfield SILC is committed to providing an environment in which all pupils can feel safe, happy, accepted and integrated, so that they are able to develop to their full potential.

To achieve this there needs to be:

  • respect for each individual
  • concern for the welfare of others
  • recognition of achievement
