Overview

Cardiff Sixth Form College has been topping the Independent Schools League Tables since 2010 and this year's cohort continues this fine tradition of academic excellence. But it is the individual success stories behind the figures that matters the most. Our students will be joining a wide range of courses at some of the most prestigious Universities in the UK and overseas, including Oxbridge, LSE, Imperial, Warwick, HKU. This is a culmination of months of hard work and a first important step towards a new exciting and challenging intellectual journey. We at the college are extremely proud of the achievements of its students who are stimulated by the spirit of friendly competition with one another while sharing the same goal; to achieve the very best of which they are capable.

About Us

Cardiff Sixth Form College was set up in response to a perceived need in the community. The educational system at the time did not adequately cater for those students of high academic ability but relatively modest financial means. Those academically able students would, of course, still do well in a mainstream school but they would not excel or necessarily achieve their full potential. Moreover, due to intense competition for places on courses such as, Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering and other high demand courses it is necessary to excel. Thus the idea was formed to respond to this lack in the system. The College began as a small private tutorial centre in 2004. It had charitable status from the beginning with just a small number of students from the local community. Even at this stage with a combination of small class sizes, individual attention and excellent teaching - the results were first class. Success breeds success, so as local demand grew it was thought that an international school which brought together some of the most talented students from different countries would provide a stimulating environment in which to study. It is our experience that our overseas students bring an enthusiasm and focus to their studies, which is enhancing for local students. Seeing learners who are hungry for knowledge is an effective antidote for those who take education too easily for granted. Besides, some of the money accrued is used to support and sponsor those students in the local community by way of scholarship awards.  In this way the college fulfils part of its charitable remit and is proud of its tradition of supporting emerging role-models.        Naturally, this quite rapid growth has necessitated a corresponding development on all fronts; the small teaching and administrative facility of old has relocated to our present much enlarged premises, still close to the heart of Cardiff city; more spacious, modern accommodation was needed, as well as, more staff both teaching and administrative.

Aims & Ethos

Cardiff Sixth Form College provides first class teaching, expert guidance coupled with a high level of pastoral care.

We specialise in providing high quality individual and small group tuition where required, as well as mentoring in core subjects. Intake is limited each year to ensure teachers and admin staff have time to help students, if they need it. Our aim is to prepare students for the top universities and for highly competitive Degree Courses such as Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary, Pharmacy, Law and Optometry.

With this commitment, it allows us to provide students with a full academic and non-academic program that will ensure them the best possible chance of getting onto these highly competitive courses.

We want to ensure that parents receive a good return on their investment without the need to resort to outside tutoring. We strive to enable each child to reach his/her full potential. Our programmes, which incorporate tutorial lessons across the board, are compulsory for examination years.

There is a multi-cultural atmosphere at the college which reflects the diverse background of its students and effectively mimics a university environment. Our 6th Formers find the transition to university courses therefore quite straightforward. The exemplary work ethic shown by A2 students reflects positively on the younger pupils within the centre. This helps students develop a positive attitude, confidence and a sense of satisfaction with their progress in their courses. We try to ensure pupils obtain the best possible A-Level grades permitting them to enter more demanding courses at University level.
