Welcome From The Headteacher

Hello, my name is Emma Richards and I am the Head teacher at Claremont School. Our Henleaze and Redland sites are just over a mile apart in North Bristol but we are one school with one ethos.

At Claremont School we want our pupils to achieve the best they can.  We promote respect from everyone, in an environment where everyday our students are given the best opportunities to flourish through bespoke, personalised learning.

Everyone is entitled to 'Enjoy Learning For Living'

About Us

Claremont is a school in North Bristol catering for children and young people with physical disabilities and a range of additional and/or associated learning needs, sensory impairment and health needs, aged 2 to 19 years.  The DfE designation is PD/SLD/PMLD.

The school is split site with the Primary school based in Henleaze on a campus with Henleaze Infant and Henleaze Junior Schools and the secondary school is in Redland and is co-located with Redland Green Secondary School (RGS) (1.5 miles away).

  • There are usually between 65 – 68 pupils on roll of which approximately 18% are BME, 6% EAL, 19% in receipt of pupil premium and the gender split is 52% male, 49% female. Currently there are 2 children in care.
  • The vast majority of pupils have SLCN with very few students having any functional speech. High proportions are high tech VOCA users including some who are eye gaze users.
  • Around a third of pupils on role are registered with Lifetime Nursing Services and have a range of complex health needs including tracheotomies and permanent ventilation.
  • Two thirds of pupils have gastrostomies.
  • The majority of children have highly complex health needs.
  • The majority of pupils on roll have additional sensory impairments with some having multi-sensory impairment (MSI), around half with visual impairment and small number with hearing impairment.
  • Due to the high level and complexity of need across the school we provide a high level of nursing and therapy input to meet need.
  • Some children attend on a part time basis due to health issues and this is agreed formally with the school through a Home School Attendance Agreement.
  • Attendance is on average 84% a year.
  • Claremont takes its pupils from all across the City of Bristol and from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Around 30% are from neighbouring local authorities of South Gloucestershire, BANES and North Somerset.
