We are a community primary school and nursery, serving the small town of Cleobury Mortimer which is set in the beautiful countryside of South Shropshire. The school, which has about 230 pupils, is smaller than average when compared to other primary schools nationally, but considered quite a large school in relation to the village schools in the local area. The classrooms are well-resourced and radiate off a central courtyard which is a memorial garden to commemorate the Centenary of the start of the First World War. (See photo) Our children, who are confident, friendly and well-behaved make us all very proud as they are both enthusiastic and hard working. We are a supportive and encouraging Primary and our last Ofsted Report rated us 'Good' in every aspect. We are an academy and have recently become part of Shropshire Gateway Educational Trust which now consists of one secondary school and three local primary schools.

About Us

Cleobury Mortimer Primary School is a fun place to be, and there is always something happening to enhance an already exciting curriculum. Currently, there are eight classes and we tend to be single form entry. However, occasionally, as is the case at the moment, we have mixed age classes to accommodate fluctuating cohort sizes. There are currently six full-time class teachers and four part-time teachers. The Headteacher, Carmel Mayfield, also has a teaching commitment. We are well supported by a skilled team of TAs. Additionally, a sports coach covers PPA, delivering PE sessions. We also have two youth workers who work with us on a part-time basis to assist with the emotional and social well-being of our children. Indeed, our school is a happy and caring community where the relationships between teacher and child, between school and home and between school and the wider community are considered to be very important. As a forward thinking school, we always encourage our staff to fulfil their potential and achieve their professional goals, with both in-house/trust and external training.
