At Craven, we pride ourselves on supporting, challenging and nurturing children in a way that helps to build them to be able to achieve whatever they wish to be.

Our mission is to develop children who have active and creative minds, as sense of understanding and compassions for others, and the courage to act upon their beliefs.

We seek to create a challenging learning environment that sets high expectations, but also includes the unique learning needs of every child.

By teaching our children to ask questions, make thoughtful decisions and solve problems, we want our children to become life-long learners and develop skills that prepare them for the demands of the modern world, they will soon be changing for themselves.

The staff at Craven Primary Academy believe everyone linked with the academy should feel valued and welcome. All people whatever their strengths or weaknesses, or those of their families, should be equally treated and understand that the academy will always listen to any concerns raised. We recognise that the image of the academy within the community is important and we strive to maintain this with all of our partners. Each meeting, contact or phone call to the school should be treated as a ‘public relations’ opportunity. Each visitor to the school must leave feeling they have been listened to, and dealt with, fairly and politely at all times, even if the issues are uncomfortable for either party.

All children have a right to be happy in their learning environment that should be safe, caring and secure. Opportunities for ‘first-hand’ experience’ should be given whenever possible and the curriculum ‘enriched’ to enhance learning where appropriate. A range of high quality resources will be provided for them to both stimulate thought and help encourage enquiring minds. Our pupils need to be computer literate in the modern world and prepared to embody new technologies as they are developed. They should not be afraid to fail in their work as this is how we all learn. Each child should have access to a curriculum that is both challenging, relevant to them and that will help them to become the responsible ‘citizens of the future.’

We believe our academy should value and embody truth, equality and friendship in all that we seek to do. The academy must work to extend our links with members of the community (both individuals and businesses) in order to access their skills, enrich the academy, and develop learning opportunities for our children. We view our parents as informed partners and value their positive contributions made in a wide range of circumstances.

All staff involved in the life of the academy should feel valued and encouraged to learn new skills taking up professional development opportunities throughout their careers as they arise. It is through having talented and dedicated adults in our academy that good teaching and learning can take place. Pupils should grow to understand the importance of ‘lifelong learning.’ It is important for us to maintain a sense of humour, both listening to and hearing others and continuing a sense of teamwork within a spirit of mutual trust and respect. We should all endeavour to maintain and improve our, already high, standards of behaviour and work throughout the academy. We value the partnership and support of a committed group of governors who are trained and informed, knowledgeable of the academy and who are clear about their roles and responsibilities.

Pupils should have a good attendance record arriving at the academy, on time, and being ready to learn. This needs to be celebrated and rewarded throughout the academy. Success, at all levels, in our academy must be recognised and applauded. It is important that we celebrate successes outside the academy as this is where many of our pupils flourish.

If required, children should have access to a breakfast club that is able to both feed and provide activities for the pupils before the school day and also to a range of clubs and out of school activities, including sports, at the end of the academy day. Our Academy should work in partnership with other schools and organisations in order to facilitate this.

All pupils should understand, and be taught the importance of tolerance towards other people and in particular towards those people from different cultures and countries. Pupils must be taught to value the fact that we are all individuals and have different interests and abilities. The academy grounds should provide seating areas for groups of pupils who do not wish to participate in physical activities during break times but who may rather read or talk with their friends.

We believe that school should be a place where children thrive, share our high expectations and be the ‘best’ that they can be. Children have only ‘one shot’ at primary education and it is up to each and every one of us to strive to make this a happy, positive and worthwhile experience for all of them.

Delta Academies Trust (Delta) is a single-trust multi-academy sponsor. In that capacity, it acts as one employer across all the Academies which it sponsors. Delta is an exempt educational charity with its members drawn from the public sector and Directors with appropriate expertise appointed on a voluntary basis. Delta has a proven track record as well as the educational expertise, capacity and experience to secure transformational change and sustainable academy improvement.

It is currently responsible for the leadership and governance of a number of schools including Academy Trusts and Foundation Shared Trusts.

With a predecessor educational trust history going back to 2004 Delta has an impressive record in School Improvement and has established an organisation which provides a 21st Century model for collaboration between the public sector and a not for profit organisation with public accountability.
