Crickhowell High School was purpose built to meet the needs of the growing community and opened as a new school in 1983. Located in the beautiful and inspiring surroundings of the Brecon Beacons National Park, Crickhowell is a lovely town located on the A40 between Brecon and Abergavenny. Our Location >> We are constantly developing a much broader range of activities and opportunities to meet the needs of the whole community. Crickhowell is recognised as a high achieving school for teaching and learning, and features regularly in the top five schools in Wales. In August 2016 Crickhowell High School was identified as one of the top 20 state schools in the United Kingdom by the Independent Newspaper. At GCSE 98% of students regularly achieve the Level Two Threshold and in 2016 87% achieved the Level 2+ (at least five grades A* – C at GCSE or equivalent including English and Maths). At A2 in 2016 100% of students achieved A*-E with 42% of grades A*/A, 74% A*-B, 86% A*-C. We have a growing Sixth Form of 200 students. We offer a very broad range of curriculum opportunities for all our students, delivered by a specialist team of highly qualified and dedicated staff. We work very hard to identify and support the individual learning needs of all our students and believe that no student should leave Crickhowell High School without a range of good qualifications. Additional learning opportunities provide a very important aspect of our School Ethos. We also offer a range of vocational courses including some part time college part time provision. In addition to this many students attend twilight sessions after school when they have the chance to study a wide range of sporting, academic and creative options. As a school we are committed to developing the use of state of the art technology to enhance learning; this includes interactive software in every classroom and video conferencing facilities. Year on year we upgrade our ICT Network across the school. We have a very strong commitment to Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship and have forged close links with Schools across the World. Crickhowell students have numerous opportunities to visit other countries as part of their academic and extra curricular studies, with regular trips to Poland, Germany, Italy, France, Austria, Canada and other international destinations.
