Overview

Danetree transitioned from a Junior School to a Primary School in September 2016 and in September 2017 the pupils moved into the new Early Years and Key Stage 1 building with a fantastic Nursery Provision. We have many fantastic  opportunities within our expanding school. From Class Teachers, to Nursery Teachers, Learning Assistants and Office Assistants  we have many roles available within our popular and high achieving school, and would love to hear from all qualified individuals looking for their next rewarding career opportunity.  Set in fantastic grounds in West Ewell, Epsom; Danetree was the first Primary Academy in Epsom & Ewell.

Our forward thinking approach and dedicated staff aim to provide the best education for our children, bringing learning to life through our innovative thematic curriculum. When combined with our varied menu of clubs and activities, Danetree is an exciting place for children. As an Academy within GLF Schools, we benefit from sharing outstanding resources, support and professional development opportunities with other GLF schools.

We are committed to an ethos of high expectations. In June 2014 Ofsted judged Danetree to be a good school, noting that “Leaders at all levels are passionate about the school and want the best for the pupils. They are clear about what needs to be done to make the school outstanding in the future. There is a shared drive to continue to improve the school.” Our Mission statement ‘Danetree is a caring school, where learning is creative, challenging and inspiring; enabling all to achieve their potential’; is evident throughout our school.

AboutUs

Danetree is a caring school where learning is creative, challenging and inspiring; enabling all to achieve their potential. At Danetree we believe that learning should be enjoyable and motivational, and must provide a variety of opportunities for all. We are proud of our ‘Creative Curriculum’, which is designed to capture our children’s interest and imagination; structured to meet their individual needs and aspirations. Our curriculum allows the children to develop and apply the skills they need to make an effective transition to secondary school and to contribute positively to society.

In order to deliver a tailored approach to children’s learning, every child is taught in personalised groups for mathematics across the school and for English from Year 4. This ensures that children are taught at a pace that is appropriate to them and conducive to effective learning. The children in every year group benefit from specialist teaching in French, Music and PE as well as learning support in every class. We are committed to an ethos of high expectations and endeavour to treat our children as individuals, inspired with confidence to reach their full potential as twenty-first century citizens. In a stimulating learning environment, children are expected to be respectful, polite, honest and contribute to our school community.

We achieve this through determined academic focus, extra-curricular opportunities and nurturing our children’s social development. Our ‘Behaviour for Learning’ strategies and reward systems reflect our excellent pastoral care whilst celebrating children’s achievements. We recognise that we are a large school and we have established a system that supports the children throughout their time at the school on an individual basis. GLF Schools is a multi-academy trust centred upon the National Support School status of Glyn School. GLF Schools’ motto is ‘where children grow, learn and flourish’ and we are committed to developing our school improvement strategy across all sectors. GLF Schools aspires to create a group of academies that have a reputation for delivering an outstanding education for all children and students. Whilst operating as a part of a family, each school exists in its own right maintaining its own unique characteristics and individual identity. Whilst each school serves to meet the needs of its local community, all are united in their core purpose of providing an outstanding educational experience. Danetree was the first primary school to join Glyn School to form GLF Schools.

Working for Us

“The leadership team is ambitious and has high expectations for staff and pupils.” Ofsted 2012 Our impressive facilities include extensive playing fields, a gymnasium and a dedicated music room. Our hall, with stage and sound system, plays host to regular performances by the children; some of which you are welcome to attend. The ‘Danetree Diner’, our purpose-built dining hall which opened in 2010, offers nutritious meals, freshly cooked on-site, and a bright, welcoming environment for the children to enjoy their lunchtimes. We are passionate about providing children with state of the art resources, from our well-equipped ICT suite, furnished with 32 PCs, to banks of Apple iPads and Microsoft Notebooks. Each classroom enjoys the benefit of an Interactive Whiteboard and other digital equipment such as visualisers, web-cams and digital microscopes to enhance learning. So, what are the benefits of working for a school in the GLF family of schools? We are a group of schools rooted in providing the best possible education for children and we are not motivated by ‘making a profit’. This means we enable each Headteacher and their team of leaders to ensure that the work of their school is of the highest standard allowing children and young people to have high aspirations. We continually offer excellent CPD opportunities as well as supported career development across the family of schools. Over the past three years, we have trained and developed 15 leaders who have been promoted to headship, deputy headship, assistant headship and school business managers. Our family of schools regularly network and collaborate to share insight, expertise and best practice not only within our own family but also beyond. (For example last term, Glyn School hosted an Independent Thinking ‘Big Day Out’, where some of the UK’s leading educational innovators, thinkers, authors and practitioners came together to share ideas, insights and strategies.)

Local Area

Epsom & Ewell

Ewell village is situated in the borough of Epsom & Ewell. The borough lies on the spring line on the north face of the North Downs where pervious chalk meets impervious London clay and a series of springs form. Ewell takes its name from the spring in the centre of the town.

Ewell is a small village boasting a number of boutique shops, restaurants and pubs. Epsom is within easy walking distance and has a leisure centre, cinema, theatre and shopping centre.

Local Attractions

Epsom is famous for its race course.  The beautiful Surrey countryside including Box Hill, Leith Hill and Denbies Wine Estate are only a short drive or alternatively the culture and diversity of London are a brief train journey away.

Recreational Activities

There are a number of parks in Epsom & Ewell with public tennis courts and playing fields.

Transport Links

Danetree Junior School has excellent transport links with two stations, Ewell West on the London Waterloo line and Ewell East on the London Victoria line, both within easy access. Ewell is in Travelcard Zone 6 making travel easier with the use of an Oystercard. Travel time from London is approximately 25 minutes. There are frequent and reliable bus services and the school is easily accessible by car from the M25 and A3.

Headteacher's Welcome

I am privileged to lead Danetree Primary School, alongside the members of the Leadership and Management team.

Danetree is a four form entry school set in fantastic grounds in West Ewell, Epsom; the first Primary Academy in Epsom & Ewell.  Our forward thinking approach and dedicated staff aim to provide the best education for our children, bringing learning to life through our innovative thematic curriculum.  When combined with our varied menu of clubs and activities, Danetree is an exciting place for our children.

As an Academy within GLF Schools, we benefit from sharing outstanding resources, facilities and support with Glyn School and we have been working in partnership with Glyn since October 2010.

We are committed to an ethos of high expectations. In June 2014 Ofsted judged Danetree to be a 'good' school where "leaders at all levels are passionate about the school and want the best for the pupils. They are clear about what needs to be done to make the school outstanding in the future."

We hope our website gives you a flavour of life at Danetree. We welcome visits; our Year 6 ambassadors would love the opportunity to show you their school so that you can see our children in action.

Teaching and Learning at Danetree Primary School

Teaching and Learning is at the heart of everything we do at Danetree.

We strive to make every lesson, of every day challenging, inspiring and engaging.  There are a number of ways we ensure this happens.

Our Curriculum

In line with the expectations of the new National Curriculum, Danetree has become a Cornerstones school in 2014. The curriculum we teach across the school uses the Cornerstones thematic approach where the children’s learning is centred around exciting and stimulating topics each half term. The theme of the learning environments, homework tasks and school visits link directly to the topic.  Each topic includes most subjects, with a main subject that each topic is heavily based on. The topics for this year are as follows:

Professional development at Danetree

To ensure that all elements of teaching and learning meet the minimum Danetree standard, weekly staff training opportunities are aimed at celebrating the strengths of practice and identifying ways to move practice forward.

Enrichment of the curriculum

At Danetree we believe the Cornerstones Curriculum is only one aspect of our children’s overall education. We provide children with an extensive range of enrichment opportunities that go beyond the curriculum.  All staff run an extra-curricular opportunity based on their own talents or skills.  Currently these include line dancing, yoga, sewing and football (to mention only a few) and change on a termly basis offering a wide range of experiences across the school.

Our house system creates a sense of healthy competition yet collaboration in the events we organise. With Heads of Houses and House Captains, weekly house point updates are celebrated from the house events that take place throughout the year.  These include business enterprise events to prepare for the Christmas and Easter fairs, whole school mastermind challenge and talent contests in addition to termly staff house events.  Each house also supports a charity of the children’s choice and organises a fund raising event throughout the year.

We ensure that special times of the year for children are celebrated.  Below is a list of just some of the events that we plan to hold this coming year:

·         an impressive fireworks display

·         a traditional Christmas carol concert

·         a whole school Christmas extravaganza day

·         a whole school business enterprise day

·         a Year 6 leavers performance

·         a Year 6 award ceremony

Pupil Parliament is a new and developing part of school life where children are given the opportunity to have their say and influence things that happen in school. We have four councils that form our school Parliament, to steer key issues in school such as Learning, Healthy Schools, Eco and Safety.
