Overview

Discovery Schools Academy Trust was formed in July 2012 and is a partnership between a group of like-minded schools who are committed to providing the highest possible educational experience for children. The Trust is organised into learning clusters with outstanding and good schools supporting other partners on their journey toward becoming outstanding. The multi academy partnership is dedicated to improving learning and teaching by creating a culture that promotes excellence. The needs of all children are placed at the heart of all decision making regardless of the school they attend. 

Discovery Schools Academies Trust boasts a successful teaching school; Affinity Teaching School Alliance (Affinity TSA) that works in partnership with over 60 primaries in Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland. We also recruit and train new teachers through our School Centred Teacher Training Programme (SCITT) and have training cohorts in both Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire

Professional Development

We believe that all school staff make a difference to children’s learning and so we place staff development and wellbeing at the centre of our strategic planning. All staff are offered training opportunities, high quality professional development and feedback through both Discovery Schools Academy Trust and Affinity Teaching School Alliance. 

In addition to this core offer we work with a number of key strategic partners to support staff development and leadership training. Our strategic leadership team have programmes available to offer to talented staff members; including designated headteacher programmes and lead professional opportunities and all staff have structured annual appraisals that support all employees professional development and improve and enhance their working practice.

We are committed to helping our employees develop their skills and qualifications and have a fantastic track record of career progression across the Trust. 

New for 2017 sees the introduction of our Apprenticeship Strategy which will not only create new employment opportunities for people but also enable existing staff to start a new learning journey to gain higher work based qualifications.

Our Schools

The Trust was formally established in July 2012. It currently comprises thirteen schools.

Kibworth C of E Primary

Kibworth CofE Primary is a large, three form entry, village primary school serving the villages of Kibworth and Smeeton Westerby. Current numbers on role hit an all time high in September 2015 when numbers reached 525 children aged between 4 years and 11 years. The size of the school offers many advantages as we are able to offer a wide range of learning opportunities and have a number of specialist teachers in our employment. However there still remains a sense of family within the school community which is reinforced by a house group organisation where older children support younger members of the school in various group activities and play.

 Parkland Primary

Parkland Primary School is situated in South Wigston, serving south Wigston and part of Glen Parva. Our school is a bright, spacious and welcoming environment which encourages learning both inside and outdoors. We have places for 525 pupils in 17 classes aged between 4 and 11 years of age. In the Autumn Term 2015 we will open our Pre-School.

Sileby Redlands Community Primary

Redlands Community Primary School is a Ofsted graded “Good” school that is very much at the centre of the village of Sileby; we have close links with our community and believe in working together to inspire the children to be proud of the place in which they live.  It is the aim of the staff and governors to ensure that all our children are happy and enjoy their time at school. Children have the opportunity to reach their full potential to do their very best, and be recognised for all their achievements.  Our motto is “Working Together, Aiming for Excellence”. Currently our numbers on roll are at an all-time high with 288 children attending from the ages of 4-11 years old. We are described as the choice of school in the village of Sileby – which makes us very proud!

Enderby Danemill Primary

Danemill Primary School on Mill Lane was completed in 1965 in the village of Enderby in south Leicestershire.  Originally a split site school; the EYFS and Key Stage 1 children attended the Townsend Road Annex in the centre of Enderby, which had been the village school for over 100 years.  In May 2013, following the completion of two new builds on the Mill Lane site, Danemill finally became a single site school and we currently have around 400 children on role, aged between 4 and 11 years.

 Woolden Hill Primary

At Woolden Hill our aim is to create a place where children are inspired to learn and achieve to the very best of their ability. Our children love coming to school. They feel safe, develop strong friendships, have fun and have the confidence to explore new challenges.

We believe very strongly in working closely with parents and carers, who provide so much essential encouragement and security to enable children to thrive during their years at school, and the staff and governors are working hard to ensure that all children are happy at school and achieve the results they deserve.

Mowmacre Hill Primary

Mowmacre Hill Primary School is a happy caring school, which values all of its community. We are a mixed 3-11 years’ school with approximately 365 children on roll, and we serve the North West of Leicester City.  

The school is comprised of 8 KS2 classes, 4 KS1 classes and 3 foundation classes offering part time and full time places, with all single year classes.    

We have a dedicated team of teachers and learning support staff working in our classrooms and behaviour/ attendance mentors supporting children across the school.

The school has a supportive friendly team of staff. The governors are dedicated to the development of the school and are fully supportive of the Senior Management Team. 

Greystoke Primary

We are committed to providing a safe and inspirational environment for children to enjoy learning and enable them to achieve their best, irrespective of ability or circumstances. All individuals, irrespective of age or role, in our community have personal learning journeys and we aim to develop a community of independent and collaborative reflective learners.  We are committed to promoting children’s self- esteem and confidence to ensure they believe in themselves and fulfil their ambitions.

Farndon Fields Primary School

We are a successful, friendly school set in beautiful grounds on the edge of Market Harborough. Our school is growing in size with the construction of two additional classrooms that were completed in February 2013.  We have very close links with our local community including a strong collaborative partnership with all of the local schools. Farndon Fields became a school with academy status on the 1st July 2012 as part of the Harborough Collaborative Trust (HCT). The HCT is a group of like-minded schools that are aiming to deliver the best outcomes for primary age children in the Harborough district.

At Farndon Fields we are incredibly passionate about improving health and later life choices for all the children in our care, impacting positively on the local community. A healthy school is essential to building and sustaining a learning environment. We have a school ethos that promotes health, well–being, self-esteem and resilience. These are the foundations for our children to be successful in all they do. We have high aspirations for all of the children in our school and we are working hard to build an innovative, creative curriculum that supports the children’s needs. The entire school community works hard to ensure that the children reach their full potential. Our goal is to develop life-long learning characteristics in children that encourage self-leadership skills, helping them to feel successful as individuals, learners and critical thinkers.

Fossebrook Primary School

Fossebrook is a brand new school in Leicester Forest East. At present, we have an EYFS class, a Year 1 class and a Y2 class. The school will grow year on year as we welcome new children into EYFS. It will eventually have year groups EYFS to Y6 and is built to cater for 210 pupils.

Working in partnership with our parents and the wider community is incredibly important to our school as we teach the children to be respectful and responsible citizens of the future; confident in their abilities and able to articulate their ideas.

Leighfield Primary Academy

Leighfield Primary School is located in the thriving market town of Uppingham in Rutland. We are fortunate to have a lovely school building with seven bright and inspiring classrooms, a library, ICT suite and a music room. Outside, we have a large field and well-equipped playground, which we use for sport, playing and outdoor learning.

We aim to provide a happy, yet challenging environment for all our pupils, where they can succeed and develop their full potential. Academic standards are generally above the national averages.

Braunstone Community Primary School

Braunstone Community Primary School is a very special place. We understand the power of education and take very seriously our duty to give your children the best start in life. Our learning community combines high expectations with qualtiy learning and relationships to ensure that every child achieves a personal best.

Merrydale Junior School

At Merrydale we aim to provide a safe, caring learning environment for all; working together with you as families and the community whilst delivering a broad, balanced and creative curriculum celebrating the diversity of our world.

SCITT

Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training offer a Primary School Centred Initial Teacher Training programme (SCITT), delivering School Direct provision which involves trainees spending a larger proportion of their time learning skills ‘on the job’ with the support of some of the best teachers in the country. Trainees also benefit from accessing their PGCE training with our partner Universities – The University of Leicester and Nottingham Trent University.

Trainees accessing our programme will gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) once completing our course. Over the past two years 100% of our trainees graded Good or better at the end of their training year have received teaching jobs.
