About Us

The School

Early Years (Ages 2¾ - 5, Foundation Stage)

Nursery and Reception classes are located in a purpose-built department, incorporating a secure play area. Children have daily access to all six areas of learning in the Foundation Stage, and are encouraged to develop their potential in a carefully structured environment. The department enjoys close links with the rest of the school.

Pre-Prep (Ages 5 – 7, Key Stage 1)

The department provides a thorough grounding in reading, writing and numeracy. French, computing, PE and games, music and art contribute to a full and balanced curriculum. Children are accommodated in their own self-contained building, while benefiting from specialist facilities located in other parts of the site.

Upper School (Ages 7 - 11, Key Stage 2)

The Upper School builds on the foundations laid in the Early Years and Pre-Prep departments. Pupils also benefit from the gradual introduction of more extensive subject and specialist teaching. The emphasis is on preparing for entrance examinations to leading independent senior schools, where pupils from Eversfield regularly achieve excellent results.

Aims and Values

Eversfield aims to provide a caring and disciplined environment in which every pupil can fulfil his or her potential – not only academically, but creatively, physically, socially and spiritually.

Structure, routine and orderly progression are essential elements which not only feature in the classroom but in all areas of activity.

A strong pastoral care system ensures that the welfare, health and overall academic progress of each pupil are carefully supervised.

In turn, pupils are expected to behave with consideration and courtesy and are given the opportunity to exercise leadership and develop a responsible attitude.

The overall aim is to build a strong sense of community within the school, where pupils feel secure and can develop their self confidence.

Close links with home are encouraged, and regular meetings and reports keep parents fully informed.

Early Years Provision

The school provides a stimulating and fulfilling educational experience of excellent quality.” Pupils benefit from a broad curriculum which allows forHeadmaster, Robert Yates comments, “The inspectors expressed their delight in the school and were very complimentary about our happy, well mannered and hard working children. The recognition that we are successfully achieving our aim to provide academic excellence with breadth, is testament to the hard work and dedication of all the staff and pupils. We are also very lucky to have the warm support of parents. Pupils show mutual respect for their peers and their teachers who know them well. They have strong feelings of belonging and pride in being part of the Eversfield family.”

French is taught from Reception age and specialist subject teaching increases as children move up the school. The well planned curriculum is enhanced by a wide range of extra curricular activities, both at lunchtime and after-school. These include tap dancing, drama, art, chess, French, photography and numerous sporting clubs.

During the inspection pupils were found to show enthusiasm for their studies and, “results over the last three years have been far above the national average.” Pupils achieved high success rates in entry to senior schools and this year a record seventeen scholarships were obtained. “Pupils in their final year at the school are very well prepared for the selection procedures they face. They leave as confident, articulate individuals with a strong sense of responsibility and appropriate study skills to take to the next stage of their education.”

The report concludes that Mr Robert Yates, who is now in his fourth year as Head of Eversfield, provides strong leadership and is effectively supported by senior management, thus enabling the school, “to fulfil its aims successfully and meet the needs of all its pupils, including children in the Early Years Foundation Stage, for whom provision is outstanding.”
