Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to Hatchlands Primary School.

I am extremely proud to be the Headteacher of such an exciting, innovative and uniquely nurturing school. It is with confidence that I can say the children are at the heart of everything we do and our school is a place that is committed to inspiring children’s hearts and minds.

Our school motto is ‘Inspiring Extraordinary Achievements in Every Child’ as we all believe that instilling a love of learning and developing different learning skills is vital in preparing children for their future lives. We want our children to leave Hatchlands as confident and highly motivated, independent learners who are caring and positive citizens.

Our values of Compassion, Courage, Responsibility and Respect are an integral part of school life and support the ethos of our school. Wellbeing and achievement go hand in hand and a key priority for us as a school is that every child is happy both in and out of the classroom. We strongly believe that if a child is not happy, they will not thrive academically or socially. We work closely with parents to ensure that every individual’s needs are being met and that every child is confident and has positive self-esteem, as we believe happy children make good learners.

Our enthusiastic, professional and dedicated teaching team work hard to ensure that every child develops into an exceptional individual with a love for learning and the capacity to reach academic excellence.

At Hatchlands, we are innovative, aspirational and consistent in our holistic approach, constantly reflecting on our practice. We try to make learning creative, stimulating, inclusive and fun with lots of challenge, setting ambitious goals for the future. Our curriculum is broad and encapsulates skills that children require now as well as skills that will prepare them for the future. We work with families to ensure that all children achieve their potential across our community, having relentlessly high expectations of ourselves and others.

We are committed to offering a vast range of opportunities at Hatchlands, both inside and outdoors, to light the spark of learning and equip your children with the skills and tools they need to take off and fly!

We hope our website provides you with the information you need, but please do not hesitate to contact us if we can provide any further information.

School Values

Inspiring Extraordinary Achievements in Every Child

At Hatchlands Primary School, we passionately believe that children’s learning should be based around their interests so our highly-skilled teaching team plan creative learning opportunities to inspire and enthuse our children. The curriculum belongs to the children and it is our job as practitioners to help shape the learning experiences around themes that excite them and lead to the children challenging themselves in their learning. We also believe that we are responsible for our planet and local environment and we encourage our children to learn about sustainability and the choices we can all make to ensure that we leave our environment in a positive state for future generations.

We aspire for every child to become confident, resilient, curious and self-motivated. We believe that all learners should experience an exciting and engaging curriculum that recognises the importance of reading, writing and maths, and progressively builds and deepens knowledge, understanding and skills across all subjects.

Our intent and ambition for our curriculum is that it is designed to meet, at a minimum, the requirements of the national curriculum and enables increasing proportions of learners to progress well in all year groups across all subjects and attain at least age related expectations combined in reading, writing and maths by the end of KS2.

Learners will receive a broad and balanced offer that progressively builds and deepens knowledge, understanding and skills across the curriculum. The offer includes a defined entitlement that enriches experience through the taught curriculum and all other planned activities in school.

Our core school values underpin every aspect of the curriculum; from teaching and learning to assemblies, from the way our children move around the school to the conversations they have in the dining room; our school values are at the core of all of our interactions.

Our values are:

  • Compassion
  • Courage
  • Responsibility
  • Respect

Aims

At Hatchlands Primary School, we recognise the importance of tailoring our curriculum to the needs of the learners and families in our school community. We therefore ensure that there is a focus on:

  • Facilitating immersive, enjoyable and interactive learning experiences; fostering a sense of awe and wonder through wow moments
  • Developing excellent communication skills so that every child can become a successful orator
  • Broadening children’s vocabulary through a language-rich environment
  • Learning from and about nature and developing pupils who are passionate about the natural world around them.

Our approach

The characteristics of effective learning underpin our whole curriculum. We want our children to be actively engaged, resilient learners who are able to think critically about their learning. This permeates across all aspects of the curriculum.

The key pillars of our curriculum are a mastery approach to teaching mathematics, immersing our pupils in quality texts to inspire successful reading and writing, high quality phonics teaching and an emphasis on confident communication. We also believe that children’s learning shouldn’t just take place in the classroom so we encourage the children to learn outside wherever possible. Outdoor learning is a key part of our curriculum and all children have an opportunity to experience this approach to learning from and about nature.

Work For Us

As a brand new school opened in 2018, we have the unique opportunity to create a wonderful and inspiring setting that ignites a passion for learning within our children. It also enables us to create an ethos where staff feel valued and supported, and as a result, go the extra mile for their children. I strongly believe that staff are the most valuable resource within a school and it is therefore my aim to create an environment where hard work, commitment to the organisation and a positive approach are recognised and rewarded through finding ways to help you to develop and sustain a manageable work life balance.

We are delighted to have moved into our brand new school building in September 2021.

At Hatchlands Primary School we want to attract and then retain the most ambitious teaching and support staff and we will reward talent and drive with leadership and additional responsibilities as the school grows. There will also be opportunities to work collaboratively with other schools, including, but not limited to, those schools within the Everychild Trust.
