Overview

At Helston Community College we are ambitious for all our students. Our College is a place where doors of opportunity are opened for students. We are committed to providing a personalised learning experience which ensures high challenge, inspirational teaching, a wide range of qualifications and an open door to the students' own unique futures. Our students will always be encouraged to step through those doors, to take responsibility for their own learning and personal development, to work hard and achieve their very best.

Our students matter: each one an individual, valued and appreciated.

We recognise that it takes a whole community to educate a child and so we are committed to working in partnership with parents, carers, statutory agencies, community organisations and other educational establishments. With everyone working together, we are able to draw on all the resources available to meet the needs and aspirations of our students.

Helston Community College is part of the Southerly Point Co-operative Multi-Academy Trust, which was established on 1st June 2017. The College's ethos and work is under-pinned by the co-operative values: self–help, self-responsibility, equity, equality, democracy and solidarity; and the co-operative ethical principles: honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others. The Trust works together to improve and enhance opportunities for all young people in the local community. For further information, including details of the accounts please use the Southerly Point Co-operative Multi-Academy Trust section of our website or the separate Southerly Point Co-operative Multi-Academy Trust website.

AboutUs

The College Campus is located on three sites within easy walking distance of each other. The South Site houses the Faculties of Cultural Studies and Visual and Performing Arts. It is also the tutor base for the Year 7 students and where the Learning Development Teach has its Centre. On the North site the College has a wide range of Sports Facilities, which include Sports Hall, a Gymnasium, two fitness suites, an All Weather Multi Use Games Area and a Swimming Pool. This is housed in the Helston Sport and Leisure Centre which shares our campus and with whom we have close links.

All the students are encouraged to make as much use as possible of these facilities during the College day and when formal lessons end. There is a wide range of sports activities available. Information Technology is well resourced in the College with seven designated computer rooms, together with smaller computer outlets throughout the College giving access to excellent information processing facilities. These are supplemented by other equipment including satellite dishes which geographers use to study world weather and enable language students to sample European TV or radio programmes. Teaching is enhanced across the whole College through the use of computer-linked, interactive whiteboards in the majority of classrooms and every classroom has a computer and digital projector.

The College has invested heavily in the provision of vocational courses, and we have created specialist facilities for Building Construction, Motor Vehicle Engineering, Horticulture and Small Animal Care, Hair and Beauty and Health and Social Care which includes a Day Nursery. The Sixth Form students have a separate social base. The wide range of extra curricular and community activities provided adds considerably to the quality of life in the College and to that of the town.
