The ISL Group of Schools provides a dynamic and balanced curriculum, based on reputable and highly recognised international curricula like the International Baccalaureate programmes and the International Primary Curriculum. Our teachers and students come from over fifty countries and speak nearly as many languages. This diversity makes us a truly global international school community. Drawing on the rich variety of cultures represented at the school, ISL develops in each student a global outlook, which seeks to understand and appreciate the attitudes and values of others.

We value highly the learning of world languages and are one of the few schools to offer foreign or mother tongue languages as part of the mainstream curriculum beginning at a very young age, offering around twenty languages to students from Early Childhood to Grade 12. Consequently, our students retain a strong sense of self-esteem in relation to their own culture and language whilst developing a fluency and ease in working in new languages and cultures. This language focus translates to more than double the world average of IB Bilingual Diplomas.

We understand that parents often feel guilty about moving children away from their extended families, cultural roots, and national education systems. However, at the ISL Schools, we make certain that we replace that loss with an enriching international education that will equip the students with the knowledge and skills needed for the 21st century.

Amin Makarem

Managing Director

Our Schools are Learning Communities, not only for our students but our faculty as well. Each staff member is actively encouraged to participate in continuing education whether through advanced degrees or participation in education conferences. The ISL Group is an active participant in the Alliance for International Education (AIE), the European Council of International Schools (ECIS), IB Middle East Association (IBMEA) and the Council of International Schools (CIS). Additionally, our Greater London Schools are involved with the London International Schools Association (LISA).

Our Managing Director, Amin Makarem, was instrumental in the development of the Alliance for International Education (AIE) UK Chapter and has been appointed a Trustee. Further, he has helped to organise and host the student Climate Change Challenge and the seminar Education for a Better World, which brought together key individuals from leading institutions and NGOs in the fields of international education. The Alliance for International Education held its biannual World Conference at ISL Qatar in October 2012.

ISL Group History

The International School of London is a pioneering international school that has paved the way for integrating mother tongue languages into a standard international curriculum, starting in the Early Childhood years. Founded in 1972, it was one of the first International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Schools. ISL London now offers the IB Diploma as well as the Primary and Middle Years Programmes. Today, the majority of students (over twice the international average) qualify for the prestigious IB Bilingual Diploma.

In 2008, ISL Qatar was opened under the Outstanding Schools Initiative started by Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned and implemented by the Supreme Education Council. ISL Qatar is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School authorised to offer the Primary Years, Middle Years (MYP) and Diploma Programmes.

Continuing with this expansion, Shell UK selected ISL to transform its Prins Willem Alexander School, the highest performing Dutch school in the world, to an international school in August 2009. ISL Surrey became the first accredited International Primary Curriculum (IPC) school in the UK in May 2010 and in June 2012, achieved the highest level of accreditation, Mastering. ISL Surrey is currently the only UK school and one of a select few worldwide to achieve the Mastering level.

The ISL Group comprises three schools, enrolling over 1600 students from over 90 countries, teaching 25 languages.
