About Us

We are a thriving and vibrant Primary School based in the west of Luton. We aim to give every child the best possible start to their education and strongly believe in our mission statement: ‘Striving For Excellence, Learning For Life.’

The school was graded as ‘good with elements of outstanding’ by Ofsted in June 2014. “Teaching is good and improving. Activities are interesting and children enjoy learning.”

We want all our children to be successful, confident and responsible individuals. We aim to provide high quality and varied learning opportunities in a safe, caring environment. We believe that all children should reach their potential in all areas of the curriculum, making or exceeding the expected progress across the primary phase.

Our committed team work hard to ensure our pupils are at the heart of everything we do and we believe that partnerships with parents and the community are an essential ingredient to a successful school.

Values at Leagrave

Through a Values based curriculum Leagrave Primary School strives to be a happy community, which celebrates the achievements of each child regardless of ability, race, gender, beliefs or personal circumstances.

Values Education is a whole community ethos. The values are principals, fundamental convictions, ideals, standards or attitudes to life that act as a consistent guide to behaviour or as reference points in decision making.

We aim to provide a positive environment which fosters children’s curiosity and eagerness to learn. Children will have access to a rich, varied and challenging curriculum, using a comprehensive range of approaches which enhances social, emotional and physical health and well-being.

Our aim is to work closely with local organisations and individuals, and to be a part of community life in Luton. As well as promoting awareness of and respect for different beliefs, cultures and communities, locally, nationally and globally.

We are clear about and committed to the values we have chosen to emphasise in our school. These have been adopted as a result of a whole school development process.

West Area Partnership

The West Area Partnership is a group of schools of all phases educating children from 0-18.  The Partnership is focused on improving outcomes for children by working together, sharing practice and resources to benefit all schools.

Within our partnership we have two Teaching School Alliances - The Chiltern Teaching School Alliance and The Shared Learning Trust Teaching School.  Schools within the partnership work with the third teaching school in Luton - Luton First Teaching School Alliance.  In addition, one of our schools is a National Support School and other partnership Headteachers and Senior Leaders are actively involved in school to school support work.  The expertise within our partnership is extensive and puts us in an excellent place to support schools within our partnership as well as throughout and beyond Luton.

Our Staff Say...

“My name is Daisy and I joined the LPS team in February 2014 as an HLTA and am now a qualified teacher. Since my first day here, I have been supported and mentored by an effective head teacher and outstanding practitioners. I will soon complete my PGCE training and am excited about starting my NQT year. I have learnt some fantastic ways to engage and motivate pupils which impacts well on their learning. Our children are set clear foundations and high expectations in order to promote good behaviour and are provided with excellent opportunities both in and outside school. Why not join our hardworking, well organised supportive team to ensure all children become the best they can be; somewhere where learning is fun and you can make an impact!”
Daisy Monaghan

“We were fortunate to be appointed as assistant head teachers in 2013 as a job share. We both have young families and welcomed the opportunity to join a friendly, supportive SLT who have a clear strategic focus and a staff where everyone plays a part in raising standards. We have both received and benefited from extensive external CPD at national courses and working as part of a partnership with other local schools.

We believe we provide ‘once in a lifetime opportunities and memories’ for our children. Engaging, interactive and fun loving experiences are at the heart of all we do.
Our recently built eco classroom allows our children to achieve and develop confidence and self esteem through hands on learning experiences in a natural environment. Come to Leagrave, be the best you can be!”
Victoria James and Colette Lamb

“We both moved from another Luton school when our Deputy was appointed Headteacher of LPS. During our time here we have both been promoted to middle managers and thoroughly enjoy sharing our ‘outstanding’ practice with other members of our team. There is a very effective, supportive SLT who ensure that we receive regular training to support us in raising standards in teaching and learning across the school. We receive regular training as a partnership with other schools, that allows us to competently assess Maths and English. We feel appreciated in our roles and are regularly rewarded with surprises e.g. a Valentine’s Day breakfast and INSET at Hampton Court. Children at Leagrave are well behaved and have a positive attitude to learning through an interactive creative curriculum.
‘Tell me and I’ll forget, show me and I might remember, involve  me and I’ll learn.’ This is what we do at Leagrave.”
Lisa Scott and Katy Bradley

“After finishing my degree in 2011, I was looking for a job in Education (something I always wanted to do).  I was offered the position of HLTA in a school that delivers quality first teaching to well behaved, well motivated children. Since I have joined, the Head teacher, Deputy and Phase Leader have valued my contribution to learning and I am soon to embark on the ‘straight to teaching’ scheme, to realise my dreams of gaining QTS.

Throughout my time, I have been given more and more responsibilities which  have  built my confidence and the support and feedback from all staff reaffirms my decision to become a full time teacher at LPS. This is a school that follows its mission statement: ‘Striving for Excellence, Learning for Life’ and can be seen all around the school among children and staff.”
Daria Perzanowska

“Prior to joining LPS in September 2014, I worked in a secondary school. I wish I had joined earlier. I love it here; there is challenge, encouragement and support. The children are amazing and their behaviour is exemplary. They are caring, helpful and kind. CPD is regular and this has enabled me to take on more responsibility in school. There is a wealth of support from the Headteacher and her SLT for both personal and work related issues. I feel fortunate to work in such a friendly atmosphere with fantastic staff.”
Michelle Crosby

“We are all teaching assistants and have all worked here for ten or more years. We all came into education as the hours suited our young families, but we are still here enjoying the changes and challenges that the school offers. We have regular training in Maths, English, Phonics, Safeguarding and First Aid. This has enabled us to progress in our careers and be well equipped to support learning.
We all feel well supported and valued by all the staff and enjoy relaxing and catching up with them through extracurricular activities. We all love our jobs and the children we support in the community where we work and live.”
Shelley Murphy, Fiona Game, Norma Alarcon and Carole McGlynn

“I joined the LPS reception team, in September 2015. There is a lively atmosphere here and I feel well supported by the SLT and all members of staff. Through weekly INSET, I have improved my practice and know there are opportunities for progression. Children here have great attitudes; they are well behaved, friendly, inquisitive and have a passion for learning. Staff well being is a high priority here, expectations are high  but you get recognition for all you do. I feel appreciated! It’s unique! I love it!”
Michaela Dockerill

“I joined Leagrave two years ago as Attendance and Admissions Officer. A number of my previous colleagues had joined the school and I was ready for a new challenge. Leagrave is led by an experienced SLT who ensure that the staff are supported and valued. All the Admin staff are fully encouraged to participate in the life of the school. Since I have been at Leagrave, I have had the opportunity to take part in many extracurricular activities. I was thrilled to go on a whole school trip to see ‘The Lion King’ and in the summer the outside of the school was turned into  a beach with pony rides, ice – cream and many more exciting activities. If you are looking for a new job then why not come to LPS to join a team where learning and achievement are paramount.”
