Leading independent fifth- and sixth-form college offering a wide range of A Level & GCSE subjects in a friendly, successful and thriving environment in the heart of Cambridge. The goal at MPW is to equip students with the academic and personal skills they need to advance to the next stage of their education.

About Us

MPW Cambridge is a friendly, successful and thriving college. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and with a variety of needs, so we specialise in providing bespoke and flexible timetables geared to individual circumstances.

As one of the UK’s leading independent sixth-form colleges, we pride ourselves on having created an environment where students enjoy working hard. A degree of informality outside the classroom is balanced by an intensive teaching approach within the classroom. There is no uniform, everyone addresses each other on a first name basis and students only need to follow 10 sensible rules. However, students must embrace being taught intensively and rigorously in small classes and tested regularly. The maximum class size is eight, and throughout the Autumn and Spring Terms weekly tests under exam conditions and across all subjects feature in the timetables of A level students. As a non-selective college, we employ well-qualified teachers and specialist support staff to stretch and challenge the most able, but support and nurture those who struggle. Every teacher at the college shares the common objective of helping students to succeed and, when necessary, going the extra mile to do so. In addition, many of our teachers are examiners or write textbooks for the subjects that they teach.

Mander Portman Woodward

MPW was established in 1973 with a mission to work with students to turn their academic aspirations into reality. Since its foundation, MPW has enjoyed a reputation for excellence in providing bespoke fifth and sixth form education. We have three colleges strategically located in London, Birmingham and Cambridge with close proximity to prestigious university campuses. Each of the colleges has its own unique facilities and resources providing a friendly and supportive learning environment for the students, yet employs a common teaching methodology to assist students in achieving academic success and gaining entry to the world’s most prestigious universities.

When it comes to a good education, one size does not necessarily fit all. As a leading sixth form college in the UK, we offer a wide range of A Level and GCSE courses giving students the flexibility to take subjects that most interest them. All A Level and GCSE courses are taught in small groups with an absolute guarantee of fewer than 10 students in each class; ensuring students benefit from personal attention and tailored support alongside high quality teaching with a clear focus on learning outcomes.

In 2014 we successfully introduced the University of London International Foundation Programme at our MPW London college. We are excited to announce that, following this success, the IFP will now also be taught at MPW Cambridge. MPW is one of only three institutions in the UK approved to teach this foundation programme with academic direction by the University of London. In addition, we also offer the NCUK International Foundation Year at our Birmingham campus to give students the skills they need to succeed at university.

At MPW we take great care to help our students fulfil their academic and personal potential. We pride ourselves in providing excellent pastoral support where each student is assigned to a Director of Studies whose role is to supervise students’ general welfare and guide students to make informed choices about their education progression.

Over the years, MPW has helped numerous former students achieve excellent results and successfully progress to elite universities including Cambridge and Oxford University.
