Morriston Comprehensive School Careers Site Eteach (29537)

My aim is very straight forward: quite simply I want Morriston Comprehensive to be an outstanding school that is inclusive and allows all students to achieve their maximum potential. A school that will achieve high academic standards, whilst providing a supportive structure that develops the skills our young people will need in the future. Our focus is on raising aspiration and expectation. The emphasis being on setting challenging targets, monitoring progress and providing consistently ‘excellent’ lessons on a daily basis, in an environment that allows teachers to teach and learners to learn. Although our emphasis is on academic achievement we are also very proud of the wider achievement of our students. We provide a wide range of sporting, musical, dramatic, artistic and cultural opportunities and we believe strongly that every student has a special talent. Our job is to find it, nurture it and allow it to flourish. Morriston has gone through some challenging times over recent years, but I have inherited a £22 million learning environment that is truly world class, pupils that are second to none and a talented staff that are fully committed to making Morriston a school we can all be proud of. If you are thinking of sending your child to Morriston I would encourage you to arrange to come and see our school in action, I think you will be impressed. Thank you to our parents and carers for entrusting us with your children. We will not let you down. Martin Franklin (Head Teacher).

The school enjoys a healthy number of preferred placements. Currently there are 1050 pupils on roll with over 180 in the Sixth Form. The school shares the campus with Morriston Leisure Centre and opportunities exist for pupils to use these facilities. The school has a strong tradition of community involvement and this has been further strengthened in recent years. The comprehensive ideal is embodied in all aspects of school life. Our main purpose as a school is to:-"Produce responsible young people whose potential, academically, socially and personally has been developed as fully as possible, by the provision of quality learning and teaching".For us to be effective, we believe that this process must be shared with the home and the community. The principles of equality of opportunity and participative decision making pervade the management and organisation of the school. In July 2010 the school was awarded a grant of £ 22 million to enable the rebuilding of the school to provide facilities for the 21st century. Work was completed in January 2015 and the facilities and resources are now of the highest possible standards available.
