Our school vision

Include, create, perform…

This vision reflects how New Bewerley Community School provides both a stimulating educational environment and a caring community where very special children: work hard, fulfil their potential, and develop a genuine concern for the needs of others and other people. We want our parents and carers to trust us and work with us. We value the religions, traditions and backgrounds of all our families.

We are ambitious about children achieving at or above age-related expectations at the end of year 6, but it is every bit as important to us to encourage our children to become active learners, developing their individual talents and mindset to the full. It is our aim that at the end of each child’s years at New Bewerley Community School they will have a sense of achievement and high self-esteem as a result of their experiences here. We hope each child will leave us for their next school happy and with a positive attitude to learning.

We welcome visitors and invite you to come and see the children, meet the staff and feel the happy atmosphere for yourself.

School Values & Intentions

School Values

Our school is founded on our values – Include, Create, Perform – and the differences we each bring here.

INCLUDE

Not only do our differences help to make us stronger, celebrating these – together – makes us the happy, supportive and ambitious school that our pupils experience every day.

As such, pupils look out for each other, settle in quickly and make friends easily.

Our enthusiastic and dedicated staff encourage all of our young people to learn and grow by being open-minded and listening to others.

We are proud of the wide range of religions, cultures, traditions and backgrounds that make up our diverse family of learners which, we believe, helps to enrich the lives of all our pupils. This belief influences our school and curriculum intent.

In addition, a wide range of experiences and the promotion of British Values across the curriculum helps to develop the spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding of our pupils.

Equality of opportunity and positive relationships between adults and children guarantees the school’s leaders’ intent to create life-long learners who aspire to fulfilling a wide-range of professions.

CREATE

Our teachers have high expectations and high aspirations for all our young people, who thrive within a caring and stimulating environment in which there are numerous opportunities to learn together and play together.

To fulfil New Bewerley Community School's leaders’ intent, we created a broad and balanced curriculum. One which celebrates music and the arts; is tailored to our pupils’ individual needs and abilities, with an emphasis on English, Science, Technology & Mathematics and other essential drivers such as health, wellbeing and equality. We believe this gives our pupils the tools they need to achieve their best.

A cross-curricular approach to learning, whilst teaching the skills required for each subject, ensures that lessons are exciting, interesting and meaningful. We believe this helps to develop a love of learning, deepen knowledge, build confidence and motivate pupils to make excellent progress.

We encourage our learners to be brave with their ideas, to surprise themselves, try new things, inspire others – and have fun. At all times we ensure that we stretch and challenge those pupils that need it and give expert and targeted support to those with special educational needs.

PERFORM

Performance measures reflect the impact school’s staff have on outcomes for learners. Learners at New Bewerley Community School make good progress. They perform well in lessons; displaying the positive learning behaviours our staff encourage - resilience, determination, supportive, reflective and celebratory.

At New Bewerley Community School, we believe the arts and sport can have a powerful effect on raising attainment, and so we give pupils every chance to perform, including working with visitors from organisations such as Opera North and Leeds Playhouse.

Our parents and carers say they trust us and are keen to work with us. Consequently, they frequently help out in classroom activities such as reading workshops and language development, ensuring that we are “the school of choice” in the local area.

We welcome the active part they play in their children’s education and the positive contribution they make to the life of the school.

Excellent relationships between staff, pupils, parents and carers also encourages good behaviour and regular attendance.
