Oakhill Primary Academy provides education across the whole range of ability for pupils aged four to eleven .

The school was opened in 1996 and is set amidst attractive grounds, having a rural aspect to the rear of the building. The Foundation Stage is an integral part of the school, as are the two separate dining rooms adjacent to the kitchen. There are ten carpeted classrooms each with shared areas for role-play, library or craft rooms. We have a library, computer suite, hall and areas for resources.

We are proud to have a good reputation in the community. This has been built upon a happy atmosphere in which each member of staff knows every child in school and provides a most caring and interested approach to each child's welfare.

We aim to accomplish high standards for academic achievement within the child's capabilities, socially acceptable behaviour and encourage the interests of our pupils with a variety of extra-curricular activities.

The school believes that first-hand experience and the development of skills, techniques and knowledge is the best way forward to achieving each child's potential.

The school relies upon parental support and co-operation upon which we base encouragement, good relationships, respect, tolerance and understanding of others by our pupils.

About us

On 1st September 2016 Oakhill became part of Wellspring Academy Trust. Wellspring is a Multi Academy Trust with Academies in Leeds, Barnsley, Huddersfield, Lincolnshire & Grimsby.  It is a local Trust founded by Barnsley College as sponsor in 2012.  The governors of Oakhill have welcomed the opportunity to become part of a bigger family of schools.  As part of Wellspring we have the purpose to achieve together and we have the toolkit to help us be successful.

Our teaching staff are skilled, enthusiastic and reflective.  They make learning fun! Governors and staff care about both wellbeing and academic excellence and aim to help children develop in all areas so that they are fully prepared for the next step of their lives when the time comes to leave.

Learning Buddies at Oakhill, introduced in September 2014, help and encourage our children to think for themselves and to know how to learn from mistakes and ideas around them. We encourage children to see that learning happens through determination and courage and working with others.  We believe that excellence comes from effort and that everyone can achieve this.

2016/17 will be a year where we will be focusing on revisiting and embedding basic skills in all areas. We want to ensure that children have a depth of understanding linked with a secure recall of facts, all wrapped up in a love of learning.
