Welcome, from the Headteacher

Our dynamic learning environment offers a rich and broad curriculum to pupils from Early Years to Post-16. We provide a personalised, nurturing and supportive environment for both our students and their families. We have high expectations for all our students and adapt each child’s time with us to best meet their needs and ultimately achieve the best outcomes for all.

Every student has unique learning needs, interests and abilities so we aim to provide an individual programme for every student alongside support and encouragement to help them move on to the next stage in their education. Transition is also a key feature of our offer – both admission and discharge – and we work very closely with a wide professional network to ensure each child is supported at every milestone.

Our success is founded on the principle of having the highest of expectation in a nurturing and personalised way; from our students, staff, parents and partner organisations. By doing this we challenge everyone within our community to achieve more than they ever thought possible. This allows students to aspire for greatness in what life journey they may choose.

Our logo symbolises the individual pathway all of our students take whilst with us, with the wishing stones signifying each unique step. Each step aims to create a smooth transition back to the students’ home school or the next phase in their learning. In addition to the subject curriculum, we offer a bespoke personalised development programme that aims to build students’ self-esteem and resilience and give them the tools to manage their future destinations. We firmly believe that all our students can achieve, regardless of their personal circumstance and journey thus far.

Our vision and ethos means that every child is placed at the centre and our specialist team of dedicated staff are here to support every step of the way.

About Us

Pilgrim Pathways School is an alternative provision whom provides education to children and young people with complex mental health and medical needs. Within the school there are four learning centres, each embedded within a ward unit and  catering for specific needs; Darwin Learning Centre, Phoenix Learning Centre, Croft Learning Centre and Addenbrooke’s Hospital Education & Outreach.

Pilgrim Pathways School is led by Leah Miller and Teachers in Charge of each hospital learning centre. We work closely with multi-agency colleagues from health, CAMH, educational staff in mainstream schools and social care professionals. Children and young people at the Pilgrim Pathways School range from 4 to 18 years of age. Most students will be dual registered with their own mainstream school. All students receive a personalised curriculum and have an Individual learning plan to support their learning. Students are able to take GCSE and other public exams whilst at the Pilgrim Pathways School. The school also provides specialist teaching and support with reintegration back to mainstream school or college and transitions to other placements.

Whether you're considering a role at our wonderful school or you've already secured a new position, welcome to Pilgrim Pathways School!

We are a dynamic and ambitious school, where our partnership-led curriculum means that creative and bespoke teaching is standard.

We have a diverse and vibrant community that embraces differences by celebrating the lessons we can learn from each other. Our approach to learning is progressive and professional; we believe in providing our students with an education that is nurturing and challenges in equal measure.

As the educators of future generations we believe it is our responsibility to believe, invest in and demonstrate the school’s values at every opportunity. At Pilgrim Pathways these are not just words on the website, but underpin how we act on a day-to-day basis and treat each other.

We believe that these behaviours are integral to provide the young people in our care with the support they need to excel. They provide the framework to offer a broad curriculum that allows individuals to seize opportunities that suit them. This successful formula allows access to the quality destinations they all deserve.

Fundamental to achieving this is having dedicated, expert and happy staff. We work hard to ensure that we recruit the right people, those who are passionate and committed to embracing Pilgrim’s approach.

All staff will receive a full training package relevant on the job as well as regular Child Protection and Prevent training. Staff will have the opportunity to complete further training to enhance their knowledge and experience and support their continued professional development.
