Welcome to Our School

On behalf of the whole Ridgeway Farm CE Academy family, we are delighted to welcome you to our fabulous school. We have been on the most wonderful journey since our opening in September 2016. Ridgeway Farm is very special to us because we have watched it grow from plans on paper to the established and successful school it is today. We are incredibly proud of the fact that our school was judged to be ‘Good’ within 3 years of opening in both the Ofsted and Church Inspections in 2019. We have grown in number over the years but we have maintained a very special family feel – we call ourselves the Ridgeway Farm Family because that’s what we are.

We work together to ensure that our children and staff have everything they need to succeed. One of the children explained it beautifully to an inspector by saying: ‘It’s like we have two headteachers.” We are ambitious and strive for excellence in all we do and we make sure that the happiness and safety of our school family is our top priority.

As an academy within the Diocese of Bristol Academies Trust, Ridgeway Farm’s Christian vision and values are firmly rooted in all we do, creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere where children of all faiths and none can thrive. We are incredibly proud of the way our children value and celebrate difference. Our vision is woven into our curriculum, which is active and engaging and enables children to learn, develop and practise the skills and values that they will need to succeed in, and beyond, the school environment.

We think our academy is a very special place to be – but you don’t have to take our word for it. You are warmly encouraged to come and pay us a visit.

Our Vision and Values

“Believe, Learn, Grow”

Our vision is for all children to believe in themselves and develop a love of lifelong learning as we grow together as part of God’s family.

To help the children understand this vision we teach the parable of the Mustard Seed, Matthew 13:31-32. The children understand that although they may seem or feel small, that through believing, learning and growing, we grow into mighty trees.

We will believe: -

That we can fulfil our potential;

That each voice is important;

In ourselves and in each other.

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

We will learn: -

Actively and creatively;

In a happy and safe environment;

To love ourselves and celebrate our uniqueness;

To become more independent and resilient.

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

We will grow: -

In wisdom, love and compassion – treating others as we want to be treated;

To be curious – asking questions about the world around us;

Into active citizens contributing to our community;

Together as part of God’s family.

Colossians 2:7

Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

Our daily life at Ridgeway Farm CE Academy is underpinned by 12 Christian values. These are taught and modelled by all members of the school community.

  • Thankfulness
  • Trust
  • Perseverance
  • Justice
  • Friendship
  • Truthfulness
  • Generosity
  • Compassion
  • Courage
  • Forgiveness
  • Service
  • Respect

Working for us

This is a unique and incredibly exciting opportunity. The chance to be part of a team opening a new primary school does not come along very often! It is even more unusual to find a new school opening in partnership with an existing school. Ridgeway Farm CE Academy will very much have its own identity and it is important that all members of its community feel a real sense of belonging. Alongside that, the Academy will work with staff at Lydiard Millicent CE Primary and gain the benefits of joint planning, professional development, sharing ideas and resources, moderation……the list is endless. It gives both school communities the opportunity to access many of the benefits of a two-form entry school whilst maintaining a smaller, village school feel on each site. It really is the best of both worlds!

All Lydiard Millicent and Ridgeway Farm staff will have the opportunity, as the partnership grows, to work at both sites. Lydiard staff have already thought of lots of ways the two schools can work together – joint staff meetings, joint training and TD Days, extra-curricular activities, joint sports teams…they can name more! As part of a consultation period, all staff were asked to share what they thought of this opportunity. Here are a few of their ideas:

“Lydiard is a very special place and working in collaboration with Ridgeway Farm will give us the opportunity to open that experience up to more children so that they can be a part of our community and what makes our school so special.”

“As a school, we are consistently trying to improve the learning opportunities that we give our children and every member of staff brings in something special to the school.  With additional staff over two sites, we will have a greater breadth of expertise.”

“Lydiard has a very strong and experienced teaching staff, with teachers and TAs who take ownership of things, work hard and show a great ambition to make things the best that can for the children in their care.”

“This partnership could enable more specialist teaching in some areas. Definitely a bonus for children and often a limitation in primary schools!”

There is something incredibly exciting about knowing we will be starting this journey as a new team together and making decisions that in years to come will have created Ridgeway Farm traditions.

We Can Offer:

  • A warm and caring school community over two sites with expert teachers and support staff;
  • An experienced and knowledgeable team;
  • The chance to be part of setting up a new school;
  • A rich and vibrant learning environment in a building and outside area purpose-built for educating our next generation;
  • Opportunities for professional development across the partner academies, within DBAT and within a local cluster;
  • A Local Board of Governors to which you can contribute;
  • A team of professionals aspiring to be ‘Outstanding’ from the start.

If you are interested in joining us on this incredible journey, we would love to hear from you.

DBAT was founded in 2012, enabling the Diocese of Bristol’s Board of Education to sponsor academies.

DBAT families of schools work together on teaching, learning and administrative work, ensuring that collaboration results in improved outcomes in all areas.

Mission Statement

DBAT’s core purposes are to:

• focus on improving the educational experiences, employment prospects and life chances of young people, especially those from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds;

Vision

Diocese of Bristol Academies Trust (DBAT) aspires to transform the educational landscape of the Diocese, working with all Church academies (including educationally under-performing academies in disadvantaged socio-economic areas) to accelerate student attainment and contribute to community cohesion, so transforming academy performance and students’ life chances through excellent leadership.
