Overview

Robin Hood Primary School is situated in Kingston Vale, close to Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common. The school backs onto the grounds of Kingston University and benefits from a pleasant, leafy environment.

The single story building possesses an attractive garden area, two tarmac playgrounds and two large, grassed playing fields. The school is over 50 years old and as part of its celebrations an orchard of rare varieties of English apple trees were planted in the grounds. A new Nursery classroom was built in September 1998, which was opened by the Mayor of Kingston. The building contains all the latest amenities and prepares the children for entry into the school’s reception class. It has room for 52 children on a part time basis.

The teaching in the school is excellent with children of all abilities making good progress. Our National Curriculum results are above national averages in both key stages and we had an excellent OFSTED Report in February 2009. We were awarded the DfEE’s School Achievement award in 2001 and the Basic Skills Quality Mark in August 2002 which has been renewed in 2005, and 2008. We achieved the Artsmark Silver Award in 2006 and the Healthy Schools Award in 2008.

About Us

The school is single form entry, and is arranged into 7 classes, Reception through to Year 6. Each class contains boys and girls of mixed ability. Pupils cover the National Curriculum through carefully constructed programmes of study. The children are encouraged to become independent learners and work individually, in groups or as a whole class.

The school prides itself on its village school atmosphere, with strong local community links. It benefits from being small enough to retain a comfortable “family” feeling, with everyone knowing everyone else, yet large enough to offer a full range of curricular and extra curricular activities. The school has both football and Netball teams and there are after school activities every evening including Judo, Homework, football, chess, karate and seekers clubs. We also have a toy library for parents in the Nursery and reception classes.

Children are offered the opportunity to go on a residential visit in the juniors. Each class makes at least one off site educational visit per year. The school has recently improved facilities in the early years by creating undercover play areas outside each class and the building of a new library to house the books for its Accelerated Reader scheme.

Working in Kingston

One of London’s liveliest boroughs. Life revolves around the Thames, with the buzzing market town of Kingston being the main attraction. Kingston High Street runs parallel to the Thames so it many of its favourite restaurants are found situated along the banks of the riverside.

With the popular Kingston University based here there is an abundance of bars and clubs to entertain the vibrant student population and younger residence.

Kingston upon Thames is one of the greener areas of the capital with two royal parks in neighbouring Richmond upon Thames. Local parks hold facilities to cater for all those who enjoy the great outdoors, such as Canbury Gardens which is home to the Kingston Rowing Club boathouse and is in turn a great spot for fishing.

Only half an hour from central London it has excellent train links. Situated near to the A3 and M25 it is also easily accessible by car. The river bus as an excellent alternative to get into Canary Wharf and London Bridge.

Landmarks

Wimbledon Championships - In the neighbouring Merton bordering Kingston, the world famous Wimbledon Championships takes place. Indulge yourself in summer fun with a spot of Pimms, and Strawberries and Cream.

The Thames - Enjoy the beauty of the Thames when the weather permits it on foot, bicycle or boat.

Kingston Markets - Hunt for bargains in Kingston’s 800 year old markets.

Chessington World of Adventure - One of the UKs biggest and best theme parks. Great for those ‘kidults’ amongst us.

“Out of Order” by David Mach- Iconic sculpture that has been snapped by tourists the world around. If you’ve seen photos of London you’ll probably have seen this.
