Overview

The school is situated at the northern end of the Highfields district of Leicester.  The area contains a diverse religious and linguistic community. Shenton Primary School is a large primary school in Leicester. We have 460 children in 15 classes from Foundation 1 to Year 6.  Most of the children attending are bi-lingual or multi-lingual   Shenton Primary School serves an International community. Our children speak over 20 different languages and we pride ourselves on helping every child develop as a happy, confident and aspiring learner.

The school curriculum is designed to motivate and excite our children so that they enjoy coming to school. It encourages learning outside of the classroom through visits to places of interest, for example the Space Centre, and through visits to school by community experts e.g. performance groups. The curriculum is also enhanced with a variety of sports and arts programmes. We provide a ‘Breakfast Club’ from 8am and a variety of clubs run after school until 4pm. We have also recently introduced a ‘Summer Fun School’ to support our children through the long August break. We are always striving to improve our partnership with parents, and this team effort contributes to our children making great progress. We provide a range of additional learning support programmes to meet different children's needs. This includes programmes for children who are learning English as a new language through to providing one-to-one tuition for children who may need additional learning support for whatever reason

About Us

The children behave exceptionally well at Shenton, and they enjoy school. They are taught about different religions, cultures and countries around the world so they can respect their differences, treating each other as individuals.

At the same time the children are proud to be a part of the school community, and help each other in many different ways, from acting as welcome friends to new children and buddies in the playground for anyone who needs someone to play with. Our student council also leads fundraising activities and lets us know what else we could do to improve the school or community for everyone. The children are supported by the school’s strong behaviour management policy,  which means dealing with any issues as quickly as possible, ensuring children are knowledgeable about their own and others’ rights, and teaching them how to manage different situations effectively.
