Overview

Currently, we are a two form entry primary school with a Nursery. (From September 2018 we expanded to three forms of entry in Reception).  The school is set in extensive grounds, incorporating a field, wildlife area and pond.

Our vision is to be a learning community, which enables children to become independent, enquiring, resilient, well-rounded individuals, with a thirst for learning and a desire and aptitude to reach their full potential. By developing a curriculum which is purposeful, engaging and challenging and which utilises our outdoor learning environment, our children are motivated and inspired to learn.

At Smitham we ensure that each child’s individual needs are met and provide targeted intervention and enrichment to support every child.

We encourage all our children to take part in the wide range of extra-curricular activities available throughout the school from street dance through to gardening!

We have high expectations of our children and are always striving to raise standards. This is supported by the promotion of our motto   ‘Dream, Believe, Achieve’, encouraging the children to also have high expectations of themselves. We expect children to work hard but to also enjoy and achieve in all areas of learning and life, whilst being in a safe and secure environment.

At Smitham we strive to develop   Parental Partnership   to ensure that children and families feel welcome and supported so that together we can nurture each child to reach their full potential. To this end we operate an open door policy and encourage parents to be involved in the life of the school, through Parents’ Evenings, Family Learning activities, Curriculum Workshops, our School Grounds Days and Parent Teacher Association (P.T.A.) events.

We are always delighted to receive visitors, so do take the time to come and see us.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs. Sarah Garner

Headteacher
