Welcome

We recently converted to an academy and are founder members of the Attenborough Learning Trust.

At Sparkenhoe, we work to ensure the highest quality education for all of our pupils. We are a school with high standards and high expectations of our children, not just in their academic ability but also in their behaviour and attitudes. We recognise all talents and abilities and do our best at all times to ensure that our children enjoy their time with us as well as achieve their very best.

Our broad, balanced and stimulating curriculum prepares pupils to take their places as loyal, responsible and broad-minded British citizens. We welcome visitors to our school and pride ourselves on being a highly motivated and dedicated team who are committed to providing the best for our children, our families and our community.

About Us

Sparkenhoe Community Primary School is situated centrally, in the Highfields area of the city. Our school is on three sites. Two are the main school buildings and the third is the ARK which houses a small theatre and meeting space. It is used extensively during school time for drama, singing, music and assemblies and offers out-of- hours activities for children from the school, the local community and beyond.

The school offers a comprehensive range of extended provision both before and after school which is aimed at the needs of our pupils, parents and community. Low cost before and after school child care is provided to support working parents. Sports clubs and health clubs to boost general health and fitness and promote team spirit. Homework support for children whose parents do not speak English or who cannot support them for some other reason. Anti bullying and PHSE clubs to improve mental health and well being and boost self esteem. Artistic clubs such as singing and drama to support children with these particular talents. Our school works in partnership with a variety of other providers and agencies. We work closely with Sure Start to identify any local children not receiving their nursery education entitlement and signpost parents to any local providers with space. The school works closely with the University of Leicester, offering PGCE placements and focus days for students and international visitors.

At Sparkenhoe, we work to ensure the highest quality education for all of our pupils. We recognise all talents and abilities and do our best at all times to ensure that our children enjoy their time with us as well as achieve their very best. We are a positive and welcoming school which believes strongly that parents, carers and families are a very important part of a child’s learning and we work closely with them.

Vision & Values

Our Vision Statement

To create a school in which all children reach their full potential, academically and as individuals. A safe and secure place where children are inspired, through teaching and experiences, to work hard in a happy, stimulating environment. To ensure that children leave the school with the foundations and skills to live happy, responsible, fulfilling, prosperous lives, both at the next stage in their academic careers and as active, contributing members of a tolerant, respectful and harmonious society. To ensure that staff, children, governors and parents work together in the best interests of the school.

Our Values

Through consultation with parents, staff, children and governors, we developed our core values. These represent what makes Sparkenhoe unique and embody the attitudes and behaviours that we see from everyone on a daily basis.

At Sparkenhoe we:

  • Work together as a team
  • Learn from different experiences
  • Help and support each other
  • Recognise and celebrate hidden talents
  • Are kind, tolerant and respectful
  • Are independent
  • Learn from mistakes
  • Are responsible
  • Challenge ourselves
  • Try and fail rather than fail to try

Welcome from the Chair of Governors

Thank you for taking the time to find out about our school and the governing body. I have been a governor at Sparkenhoe Community Primary School since January 2015 and chair since September 2016. Our governing body is made up of 7 governors (2 parent, 2 co-opted, 1 LA, 1 staff and the headteacher). We also bring additional skills to the governing body through the recruitment of associated members.

The role of a school governor can be demanding but very rewarding and a good way to give back to your local community. School governing bodies are responsible for working with the school to ensure that it delivers a good education. Together with the headteacher, who is responsible for the day-to-day management, they set the school’s aims and policies. Our governing body meets monthly as a full governing body without committees.

I am extremely proud of the school leaders, staff and children and the work that they do both in the school and in the community. The school has seen a number of changes over the last few years (which school hasn’t!) and has risen to the challenge every time.

You have already taken the first step finding out about us, so why not take the next step and complete the application form and submit. The last step awaits you – the interview process.  The opportunity you have been waiting your entire career for, the opportunity to work at our fantastic school is just around the corner.

I very much hope you will want to come and work with us to deliver the best education for our students and look forward to receiving your application.

Yours faithfully

Lee Jowett
Chair of Governors
