Welcome to St John the Evangelist Church School

As the Head teacher of St John the Evangelist Church School, I am delighted to welcome you to our school.

On 1st July 2016 we were delighted to become part of the family of schools that belong to the Bath & Wells Multi Academy Trust.

I feel incredibly privileged to lead St John’s and very much value the importance of working closely with the children, staff, parents and governors. In doing so we will ensure that the traditional values on which the school is founded continue to support and drive us in our mission to provide a truly outstanding education for every child enhanced by a distinctly Christian Ethos. Our ethos is apparent throughout the school and underpins everything that we do. We strive to ensure that every child is cherished and nurtured in order to support them in all aspects of school life.

We are committed to providing the highest possible standard of education in an environment that both motivates and empowers children to become independent learners and good and caring citizens. We are committed to developing the whole child and ensuring our children are best prepared for the 21st Century, equipped with the appropriate skills and attitudes to enable them to succeed now and in the future.

All staff have the highest expectations and aspirations for children in their care; they are committed to finding and developing children’s gifts and strengths and ensuring that every child makes the best possible progress and fully succeeds during their time here.

We welcome visitors warmly and if you would like to see the school in action, please contact the office and make an appointment to visit.

About Us

At St John the Evangelist Church School, our vision for every member of our school community is that we are able to demonstrate Love for one another; that we are all able to Learn to the best of our ability: and that by working Together, We Soar to reach our greatest potential, both in our learning and in our capacity to be the best person we can be.

We aim to provide a truly outstanding education for every child built upon a distinctly Christian ethos. Recognising its historic foundation, St John the Evangelist Church School will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Churches at parish and diocesan level.

The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith, and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.’

We embrace each child’s individual talents and passions while equipping and preparing them for the world that they will go on to shape.  We strive to ignite opportunities for everyone to achieve more than they thought possible and ensure every member of our community is cherished, valued and nurtured in all aspects of their life.

Through providing the highest possible standard of education we work to assure an environment that both motivates and empowers children to become independent, lifelong learners and good, caring citizens. By embracing the children we hope to teach them to embrace the world.

Our work in school is built upon the firm foundations of our key values:

Faith, Fellowship, Agape (Christian Love), Hope, Forgiveness and Humility.

These link directly to the core values of the Bath and Wells Multi Academy Trust (https://www.bwmat.org/about-us/ethos-and-values/).

Our values are acknowledged in all areas of school life and underpin our teaching and learning. Supporting this are six key learning behaviours that we wish to ensure every child has mastered by the time they leave school and move on to the next phase of their education.

The key learning behaviours are:

Individuality, Creativity, Energy, Perseverance, Bravery and Confidence.

We explore and acknowledge our key Christian values and learning behaviours in regular acts of worship, use them to underpin key areas of teaching and learning and celebrate them weekly in our Thanksgiving Praise, recognising pupils who have demonstrated these values and behaviours in their daily studies and in the way they conduct themselves around the school.
