Overview

St. John's Primary is a one form entry school and Nursery with a real family feel. We are proud to be a small community of about 240 pupils and 40 staff; small enough for everyone to know and care for one another, but large enough to provide a range of experiences including leadership opportunities and development for all staff.

Our dedicated staff aim to give every child a bright future. We pride ourselves on having excellent pastoral care with strong relationships at the centre of the work with children, parents and the community.

We have a strong focus on well-being and happiness, promoting good mental and physical health for all children and adults at our school. Our values of kindness, courage, respect, responsibility, determination and honesty are taught throughout the school year and underpin everything that we do. The school encourages all stakeholders to embrace these values in their lives and the sharing of these ensures that St. John’s provides the environment in which children know how to become the best version of themselves.

We are committed to the education of the whole child and provide a curriculum through which every child achieves academic excellence at the same time as developing creativity, sporting excellence and has a strong emphasis on personal, emotional and social development. Our lasting legacy is that children leave St John’s with a love of learning and a pride in their personal development that will be taken into their next phase of education, becoming the foundation for a happy and successful future.

About Us

A one-form entry primary school with a FEET funded nursery, St. John’s is a fully inclusive school with a caring, family feel that has high aspirations for every child in its care.

Accommodating around 240 children from the age of 2 in Nursery up to age 11, the school benefits from a number of facilities (including an undercover heated swimming pool) which help provide a safe, healthy and happy environment for children to thrive in. We also have a beautiful forest school area which the children love to work and learn in, nurturing a love of the outdoors and developing a whole range of skills and knowledge.

We believe in every child having a bright future and children make good academic progress from the point when they join us. Our school context is a brilliant mix as 33% of our pupils come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, 35% are learning English as an Additional Language and 22% of our children are on the SEN register. Some of our children have complex and complicated needs. We are lucky to have an excellent pastoral team with a full time Home School Link Worker and full time ESLA who support children’s well-being alongside teaching and support staff.

Our staff love working here and feel supported in their professional development. We make decisions about the school together, always putting children at the heart of every decision we make. A teacher said to us said “the Head and the SENDCO and SLT are always present and support us when needed: they are always happy to answer any questions, give very constructive coaching and feedback and know the children really well.”

It would be my pleasure to show you around our friendly school so please do not hesitate to come and visit. You can arrange an appointment with me by contacting the school office.
