About The Dean Academy “Students are polite, friendly and cooperative and the atmosphere in school is calm and welcoming” Ofsted Our Aim Our aim is to extend every child’s world through an appropriate balance of academic, artistic, sporting and cultural experiences; to provide a learning environment that ensures that all students are successful, challenged, engaged and, most important of all, enjoy the whole learning experience.   The academy provides a caring, supportive environment, ensuring that students are happy and safe and able to make the most of the exciting opportunities on offer to 16 and beyond. The curriculum has been developed to enable every child to develop leadership and team building skills, to grow in self-confidence and develop self-esteem. Ultimately, our aim is to watch each child grow into a resilient, confident and articulate young adult, equipped for life beyond secondary education and with a desire to understand the world around them that will never diminish. Where Are We? The Dean Academy is a semi rural, mixed 11-16 community school in Lydney, Gloucestershire, situated on the edge of the Royal forest of Dean. It is conveniently situated between Gloucester and Bristol and well within striking distance of Newport. Many of our staff commute from Bristol, Gloucester, Newport and even Cardiff. The school is set in 33 acres of grounds with extensive playing fields and a joint usage sports centre and swimming pool that we are proud to share with the local community. Our facilities are unusual in that we have separate buildings for each faculty with additional facilities for administration and the restaurant. The community we serve is large; Lydney is a rural town of about 10,000 inhabitants and we take a large number of our students from the town but we also have a large number who commute in from surrounding villages. We currently have 750 students on roll. About a quarter of our students are eligible for the Pupil Premium and 16% of students have additional learning needs.
