The Lacon Childe School is an 11-16 comprehensive school and specialist sports college.  We converted to Academy status on October 1st 2014. We are now part of the Shropshire Gateway Educational Trust.

The aims of Lacon Childe School are to:

  • enable all children to achieve their full potential in all areas of the school;
  • provide a wide variety of enriching experiences;
  • promote an ethos to value oneself and others;
  • create a friendly, supportive, accessible and modern learning environment for everyone;
  • foster links with the wider community.

Our Location

Lacon Childe is located in Cleobury Mortimer, a small, friendly market town set in the beautiful South Shropshire countryside. Cleobury has an excellent range of amenities with a range of local shops, restaurants, pubs and a golf course. The school itself has excellent indoor and outdoor sporting facilities which are all open to the local community. It is an easy and picturesque commute from towns such as Worcester, Kidderminster, Bewdley and Bridgnorth and is close to the city of Birmingham which is less than one hour away. The staff at Lacon Childe travel from these areas and also Hereford, Dudley and Shrewsbury. The town is also a 15 minute drive to Ludlow which has recently been named as one of the best places to live in Britain and was described by John Betjeman as probably one of the loveliest towns in England.

Cleobury Mortimer and the surrounding villages have a wide range of properties available to suit all budgets and therefore is a great place to raise a family, live and work if you want to escape to the country.

Lacon Childe School is based in Cleobury Mortimer and currently attended by 550 students who travel from across the beautiful South Shropshire countryside. The school is a well-maintained range of buildings with specialist teaching facilities for all subjects including technology rooms, an extensive library, sports fields and all-weather pitches. We have 39 teaching and 47 support staff to ensure that students are supported in meeting their full potential.

We have the benefits of being a small secondary school and are able to offer opportunities from our knowledge of each and every student; however, we also aim to provide the facilities and experience of a larger school through the excellence of our staff and the relationships that we have built with our community.

“Students’ behaviour is outstanding. Their positive attitudes and the warm relationships that are evident throughout the school make a significant contribution to their learning” (Ofsted, October 2012)

“Staff train pupils in effective personal organisation, enabling them to tackle their work with confidence.” (Ofsted)
