• Within our Trust, every young person will achieve their full potential becoming the best person they can be.

 • We will be respected and recognised for our student outcomes and for the positive impact we have on the life chances of young people.

Purpose (How we create value)

• To promote and facilitate a broad and balanced educational experience of exceptional quality for all young people.

• To build the character of our young people by providing a secure, inclusive and inspiring environment that fosters self-belief, builds resilience, and promotes a positive attitude to work and life-long learning.

• To cherish the community that we serve and champion Christian values.

In all aspects of the life of the Trust, we aim to put into practice our values of Creativity, Responsibility and Wisdom, which are based on Biblical principles.

Creativity is fundamental – ‘God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.’ (Genesis, Chapter 1, verse 31)

Responsibility is at the root of the Christian concept of loving service – ‘You were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love’. The entire law is summed up in a single command, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ (Galatians, Chapter 5, verse 13)

Wisdom is that to which we aspire throughout our learning and living – ‘Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding.’ (Proverbs, Chapter 3, verse 13)

St Hugh's is a place where students and staff are valued and cared for, in an environment where they can embrace all aspects of education.

We measure the success of our students in many different ways and offer them opportunities to develop and grow as people during their time with us. As a small Church academy, we get to know our students extremely well. Many comment on the family atmosphere when visiting us. Much of this can be attributed to our ethos, which is driven by our values of creativity, responsibility and wisdom.

In recent years, we have embraced the ‘growth mindset’ approach to learning, encouraging our students to develop their levels of resilience – a quality which will stand them in good stead in later life. Every student belongs to a House: Socrates, Voltaire and Plato, and this is the vehicle which further strengthens our sense of community.

Our classrooms are modern, well-resourced and maintained so that every child, whatever their interest or ‘element’, can experience the best quality environment possible to enable them to achieve. We are passionate about the role that technology can play in the learning process, and as such, we encourage the use of iPads in the classroom and at home to deepen the learning experience. We feel that this increases the level of curiosity and heightens the quality of communication between all stakeholders.

In addition to our varied curriculum provision, we believe very passionately in the role that sport can play in all our lives and encourage our students to take part in extra-curricular activities such as: tennis, football, cycling, table-tennis, and new this year, rugby. Our students benefit from a range of opportunities, including educational trips – some of which are abroad in France and Spain, as well as more local visits or places such as the Harry Potter, Warner Brothers Studios, the Science Museum and the Space Centre.

The voice of the student is a very important part of our culture and is led by the Head Boy and Head Girl and a team of prefects. These students act as ambassadors for the academy and help to shape its future.

Of critical importance is the home-school partnership and we recognise the vital role that parents and carers play in the education process. As such, we offer many opportunities to visit us and also to share in the events at the academy.

If you would like to visit, you would be made very welcome
