Overview

We are a one-form entry village primary school situated close to the centre of Warlingham Village, Surrey, a few miles to the south of Croydon. We have an average of 210 pupils on roll, housed in a traditional Edwardian building. At Warlingham Village Primary School we are not only concerned with the child’s intellectual development, but also with the development of their social and moral attitudes and their physical, emotional and personal well-being.

Every member of staff, whether teaching or non-teaching, plays a vital role here. We believe that children achieve most within a positive environment and therefore seek to give praise, encouragement and reward whenever possible. We  encourage children to become independent learners, self-disciplined, and to take on areas of responsibility. On 1st September 2013, we were proud to become an academy member of GLF Schools, a community of schools committed to giving children the best teaching and greatest opportunities. Whilst keeping our unique identity, being part of this academy group has enabled Warlingham Village Primary School to complete its journey from ‘good’ to ‘outstanding’.

There are seven classes, one for each year with seven full time class teachers, plus a deputy and a Headteacher. Teaching assistants provide bespoke provision to support learning across the school and there are numerous volunteer helpers who support the children in many areas of the curriculum.

Working for Us

We have a dedicated team of teachers who successfully achieved  'outstanding' status in June 2015. They plan and teach each child’s learning journey against ambitious expectations for their progress. Extra learning help is provided, where necessary, through a team of teaching assistants who may provide group or individual support to children under the direction of class teachers. Warlingham Village Primary School is committed to equality of opportunity. We foster an inclusive ethos in which all children are encouraged to aim high and are supported to achieve their full potential.

Children are challenged to learn with targets appropriate to their ability So, what are the benefits of working for a school in the GLF family of schools? We are a group of schools rooted in providing the best possible education for children and we are not motivated by ‘making a profit’. This means we enable each Headteacher and their team of leaders to ensure that the work of their school is of the highest standard allowing children and young people to have high aspirations. We continually offer excellent CPD opportunities as well as supported career development across the family of schools. Over the past three years, we have trained and developed 15 leaders who have been promoted to headship, deputy headship, assistant headship and school business managers.

Our family of schools regularly network and collaborate to share insight, expertise and best practice not only within our own family but also beyond. (For example last term, Glyn School hosted an Independent Thinking ‘Big Day Out’, where some of the UK’s leading educational innovators, thinkers, authors and practitioners came together to share ideas, insights and strategies.)

Local Area

Warlingham is an attractive village positioned in the county of Surrey and is home to just under eight thousand people. It's set close to the busy town of Croydon, and just a few miles from the throbbing metropolis of London, and yet is surrounded by rich beautiful countryside, woodland, gentle hills, and the North Downs. It has an interesting history which dates as far back in time as the Anglo Saxons who first settled here.

The attractive triangular shaped Village Green is the heart of the village, and it's where most of the shops and restaurants can be found. At one stage in centuries past it was on an important Coaching Route, a legacy of which remains with the ancient Coaching Inns which continue to welcome travellers and visitors. A stroll around the village will uncover a picturesque flint church that is dedicated to All Saints and has stood since the 13th Century, and attractive houses and cottages dotted about some of which were built in the 17th and 18th Centuries. Peace is unbroken today, unlike the heart stopping spectacle of the Dog Fights that were fought in the skies above the village during the Battle of Britain in WWII

Above all, we hope you will see a school where both children and adults are happy and motivated to learn.

We look forward to welcoming you to Warlingham Village Primary School.
