Welcome form the Headteacher

Westlea Primary School is a vibrant school, with just over 280 children on roll, in addition we have a Nursery class for children aged 3-4yrs. The school comprises of 11 classes and a Special Resourced Provision (SRP) for children who are physically disabled. All of the SRP children, along with others with complex learning and emotional needs are all fully integrated into the mainstream school. At Westlea, I strive to ensure that all of the children will be at the heart of every decision we make, so they are happy, safe and confident. All of the educational opportunities and experiences are relevant to the children’s needs both now and in the future.

I strongly believe that children learn through real situations, therefore it is essential that each teacher plans thought provoking lessons, that include enquiry, questioning and debate. Also, outdoor learning should be an integral part of the school curriculum for children of all ages, supported by a commitment to physical education, music and the arts. Two priorities for the past school year were to fully revise the curriculum, so that it is engaging and able to foster a passion for learning within each child and to revert to single year groups (where possible). Ultimately, every pupil should leave Westlea as a resilient young person, with high aspirations and lasting memories that will prepare them for later life. My ambition is to further promote high standards across all aspects of school, from behaviour management to embedding the new dress code and developing a sense of belonging.
