About Us

Yattendon School is a Foundation School located in Horley which is very close to the Surrey/Sussex border. There are currently 390 children on roll, 13 classes and a teaching staff of 18. We are fortunate to have an excellent team of support staff, including a Home School Link Worker, Learning Support Assistants , a sports coach,  specialist teachers, a welcoming office team and also our own catering team.

The school is set in spacious grounds and has recently undertaken an extensive building project, updating the existing building to provide some first class facilities for our children. This includes a 'knowledge' suite, a drama/music room and small group teaching rooms.  We also have a fully equipped Multi Vocation room for art, cooking and woodwork.

Included in our plans is the provision of an All weather playing pitch to enable sporting facilities all year round.

The children are currently organised in 13 mixed ability classes in year groups. Teachers in each year work as a team, planning the curriculum and supporting the needs of the children within that year. Each class is taught within a framework of class, group and individual organisation as appropriate. Most staff have responsibility for an area of the curriculum. This involves them in a leadership and consultative role, planning curriculum development and budgeting within their areas of expertise and supporting the work of colleagues.

Meetings are held weekly, either of year teams or the whole staff, which focus on planning as well as staff and school development. French is currently taught throughout the school.

Horley is adjacent to Gatwick airport on the Surrey/Sussex border and its housing and work opportunities are very related to the demands of the Airport. In partnership with Governors and parents, the staff at Yattendon School aim to offer the children in their care a broad and balanced curriculum within a safe, secure and stimulating environment in which every pupil has an equal opportunity to develop as an individual. In order to achieve this, we aim to:

  •  provide an environment in which children experience success, develop self-confidence and self-esteem and where responsible and caring attitudes towards others are fostered.
  • encourage an atmosphere of tolerance and respect within our school where all children are treated equitably, valuing their differences.
  • implement an appropriate and planned curriculum, promoting high levels of personal achievement by pupils.
  • create opportunities for all children to develop their potential scientifically, creatively, physically and spiritually.
  • expect and encourage pupils to show personal initiative and play an active role in their own learning.
  • set high expectations of children in terms of both learning and behaviour.
  • equip each child with the skills and moral values necessary to contribute to society in their adult life.
  • create a partnership in which the responsibility for the child is shared between home, school and the community.

The school was inspected by OFSTED in February 2017 and was rated 'good'
