Welcome to the Caer Elen Community

Since we opened our doors in 2018, Caer Elen has developed into a thriving 3-16 all age school. We aim to develop a successful learning community where governors, staff (teachers, administration staff, support staff, kitchen staff and cleaners), pupils and parents/carers co-operate successfully.

The school is situated within the heart of Pembrokeshire - a unique and diverse county rich in its cultural and historical heritage. We use the concept of ‘Cynefin’ as a catalyst for curricular development and ensure that our pupils develop an appreciation of their environment and everything that Pembrokeshire has to offer. The local community provides us with an array of opportunities to enrich the education of our pupils. In turn, various groups and societies from the locality use the facilities extensively in the evenings.

Our ‘state of the art’ modern campus enables us to provide our pupils with an inspiring and supportive learning environment. Pupils develop their skills in stimulating teaching rooms. They are also given opportunities to enhance their skills, knowledge and understanding in our outside learning areas.

We place great importance on providing equal opportunities for every child regardless of their ability, gender, age, religious or linguistic background. We nurture personal qualities in each individual pupil, such as courtesy, honesty, perseverance and resilience amongst others. This means that our pupils have respect for people and respect the learning environment at the school. They play a vital role in ensuring that Caer Elen is a happy, safe, inclusive and supportive community.

Ysgol Caer Elen

Foreword from the Headteacher

Mr Dafydd Hughes

Headteacher

Our aim is to develop an innovative 3-16 school which will provide high-quality education in a Welsh medium setting. We are determined to introduce an effective teaching, learning, and well-being continuum that will enable Ysgol Caer Elen to become a flourishing and successful all-age school.

We are committed to ensuring that all pupils and staff at Ysgol Caer Elen have the opportunity to fulfil their potential and contribute fully towards the process of creating a school that is a successful learning organization. Our school is inclusive and our ethos is based on the core values of kindness, fairness, support, respect and perseverance. We focus on the idea that by working together and supporting each other we can all achieve our goals. The school is at the heart of the community and the concept of ‘cynefin’ is central to all aspects of our planning.

With the introduction of the Curriculum for Wales in September 2022 there is a collective desire at Ysgol Caer Elen to ensure that we successfully deliver the principles of the curriculum. The programmes of learning offered across each Area of Learning and Experience will allow every child to thrive culturally, emotionally and academically. As the pupils engage with their learning journey they will become ambitious and capable, healthy and confident, enterprising and creative, ethical and informed. Pupils at the school will also be supported to develop vital digital, numeracy and literacy skills. Our aim is to help all to leave the school with a skillset which will allow them to thrive. We value the contribution of each and every individual. This principle of respecting the individual and considering and meeting each individual's needs is at the heart of our daily work.
