Ysgol Calon Cymru is a new school which opened in September 2018, formed by the merger of two existing neighbouring 11 – 18 schools. We have a happy, inclusive and positive school community with students studying through both Welsh and English languages and a long track record in achieving excellent GCSE and A level results (across the two previous school sites).
Since the merger in September our school operates on 2 campuses, which are only 20 minutes apart. This new dual site campus has provided us with opportunities for shared learning, team development and pupil engagement across the two sites.
It is also helping to forge stronger community links and opportunities across the communities of Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells. This includes strong links with our 12 cluster primary schools, our parents and local businesses.
Our Governing Body is highly proactive, committed and engaged and works closely with the Senior Leadership Team to help shape and deliver the best possible learning environment and opportunities for our students and staff.
We are forward thinking school and we are proud of our highly skilled and dedicated staff team and of the enthusiastic and engaged student body we have here in Ysgol Calon Cymru. Our new leadership structure has been developed to embrace the new Curriculum for Wales model as well as to provide an excellent pastoral and learning support system for our pupils.
We continually seek investment opportunities for our school and the first phase of a new build programme, to develop our Creative and Performing Arts Hub, is imminent. This will be a flagship facility for Mid Wales and is only the start of a major redevelopment of our learning environment.
