Famous around the globe for the world’s favourite tennis tournament. This is a predominantly affluent area of South West London with five main town centres: Mitcham, Morden, Wimbledon, Colliers Wood and Raynes Park.

Merton Borough Guide

The borough is mostly residential, serving London commuters who take advantage of the wealth of green space in the area. Settlers from the Southern Hemisphere are also well represented within the area with a large South African community settling within the borough, mainly around Wimbledon. The varying cultures of residents tend to lend itself to a pretty lively weekend nightlife scene.

It has excellent transport links throughout the borough into the city with Wimbledon station providing a 10 minute service into Clapham Junction. Superb shopping and a friendly and welcoming atmosphere within the borough and amongst residents. The borough has outstanding schools in abundance with King’s College Wimbledon and Wimbledon High School both placed within the top 200 performing schools in the country for both GCSE and A-level results.

Things to do in Merton

Wimbledon Championships - If you’re a tennis fanatic or just a fan of sunshine, Pimms, and strawberries and cream, Wimbledon Tennis Championships is the focal point in these parts.

Henman Hill - Soak up the sun and the atmosphere for free at Henman Hill (or Murray Mound). Sit on the grass and enjoy a picnic in the sun with a spot of tennis.

Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum - Learn the history of the sport and enjoy this impressively interactive and futuristic experience.

The Old Frizzle - A cool 19th century sports bar in Wimbledon. Come here for a bite to eat, a good old warming craft ale, to watch some live sport and enjoy live music. An eclectic and quirky venue with a relaxed casual ambiance it is a cracking place to come and enjoy the weekends.

Cah Chi - One of the best Korean restaurants in the country, based in Raynes Park, it is famous amongst the Korean community.
