WELCOME FROM THE HEAD BOY AND GIRL We are the Head Boy and Girl for this academic year, and on behalf of Mrs Duncan, the staff and the governors we would like to introduce you to the school. We are extremely proud of our school, and we hope that this prospectus will provide you with all the information that you require. In June 2012, just before we broke up for the summer holidays, Sunbury Manor School was inspected by Ofsted. A full report can be found on our website, but we would like to share just some of the highlights with you.
The Inspection Team report says (and we agree): • Sunbury Manor School is a good and caring school. • Parents, carers and students are right to be positive about the quality of education and care provided. • Students make good progress. • Teaching is good. • Students’ behaviour is good and they feel safe. • Students are well motivated and keen learners. As we enter our final year at the school, and work hard towards out GCSEs, we agree wholeheartedly that the school is a good and caring school. Not only do we enjoy a really wide curriculum, delivered by excellent, specialist teachers, but this is supported by a huge range of extra-curricular activities. Our school is totally inclusive —there really is something for everyone. The teachers make sure that we choose what is right for us when we make our option choices in Year 9, and there is a definite focus on each of us as individuals, whatever our ability. Our achievements are recognised and acknowledged throughout the year, but in particular at our Celebration of Achievement Evening—the highlight of the year for the students. We are a specialist Humanities school and last year the school achieved International Schools Award. We are very proud of this award as it shows that not only are we interested in our own community, both in school and in the wider local community, but that we are also involved in several international initiatives. And what about after school and extra curricular activities? There are also so many after school and extra curricular activities on offer that it is not unusual for there to be over 140 students still on site after school, enjoying sports, music, drama, the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme, extra tuition, the library, film clubs, environmental clubs, art, media, training as Wimbledon ball boys and girls—and much more. The day certainly doesn’t end at 3.10 when the bell goes! We won 25 sports trophies/ championships in the last academic year, including winning the District Sports Championships for the 5th year running. The trophies are proudly on display in Reception. You will find a lot more information about the school on our website—please do take a look.Jack and Sophie
