At Ashby School, we want all our students to have a happy and successful learning experience.
The school is committed to ensuring that all students fulfil their academic potential.
However, Ashby School prides itself on much more than its academic standards.
Students of all interests and abilities are encouraged to get the most out of school life, whether through sport, music or one of the many other opportunities on offer.
Our aim is for all students to be successful and to leave the school as responsible, confident and well-rounded citizens.
We hope that they take with them long and fond memories of their time at Ashby School.
At Ashby School we want our students to have a happy and successful learning experience. Exploring and developing learners is at the core of all we do and conversations about Teaching and Learning are at the heart of the school.
We recognise that students learn best in a positive, supportive and consistent environment. Well prepared and stimulating lessons encourage good attendance, positive behaviour and enable students to make progress and strive to achieve their potential. A teacher must plan, facilitate learning and be a good classroom manager. Guidelines are included in the Ashby Teaching Expectations document.
Our teachers are committed to continue learning to ensure the best classroom practice. We are proud to lead the way. Our aim is for all students to achieve their full potential and to leave feeling genuinely empowered to learn.

Monitoring and Evaluation
We are interested in each other’s classrooms and have an open door policy where we share experience, practice and support. Our Senior Leadership Team is present and involved within the classrooms. Lesson visits and learning walks are often themed in order to focus areas.
Observations are unannounced and provide opportunities to monitor and evaluate the learners and teaching. The teaching and learning team is valued and provides constant support to explore and develop practice.
It is important that all teachers at Ashby make progress at whatever level they are at. We provide comprehensive support for our newly qualified staff and also continue to explore and develop practice through our Lead Practitioner Team. This can involve observing, planning and team teaching.
We have also established a group of lead teachers to challenge practice in order to access the highest level of teaching and learning and achieve their potential.
At Ashby School, we are committed to the recruitment and retention of the best teachers.
Our professional development provision ensures individuals feel valued at every stage of their career. As professionals, new staff are invited to attend an overnight residential to initiate their time at Ashby. Opportunities to get involved and progress are constant and we actively encourage talent spotting - and not just to participate on stage in our staff revue performance!
