I am delighted to be able to introduce you to Backwell School.
Backwell School is a wonderful place to spend your working day. We have a beautiful rural setting with the fabulous cultural opportunities of Bristol just a few minutes away. Our teachers are well-qualified experts in their subjects who love teaching and we have over 1700 fascinating and positive students who enjoy their learning.
Backwell School's reputation is as one of the most-sought after schools in the South West. What makes this school special is that it provides consistent academic excellence, yet remains a school whose hallmarks are friendliness, belief in the breadth of opportunity for all and a real sense of community.
The success of the school can be measured by excellent academic results and by its record of helping students to subsequent destinations in education and employments that are challenging and fulfilling. We feel it is equally important to measure our success by the range of opportunities our students experience. We place huge value on the wider curriculum both inside and outside the classroom. At Backwell we believe in promoting respect and tolerance to create an inclusive community of which young people are proud to feel a part of - even many years after they leave the school.
Jon Nunes - Headteacher
Our values are detailed in our Backwell School Charter.
Our staff believe that every individual has different skills and potential; we believe that their success must be nurtured, valued and celebrated wherever it may occur. No young person should miss out on a successful, rewarding and happy time at school.
Our students achieve not only academic success but they also take part in a wide and exciting range of experiences in and out of the classroom: theatrical, musical, artistic, technical, outdoor and just plain fun! Sport, too, is an area of major success for our students and our teams and individual students consistently win competitions and trophies across a whole range of sports.
We expect a lot from our students, we expect them to work hard, play hard and behave well. We ensure that our students develop a strong sense of right and wrong and actively uphold the values of tolerance and mutual respect.
