Teacher of Physical Education with Geography

We are looking to recruit a Teacher of Physical Education with Geography to teach a shared timetable across PE and Geography to join us from end of August 2024 (or 1st / 8th July 2024 for ECTs) for one year in the first instance.

Beaumont Leys School is a highly successful 11-16 school. We are very proud of the progress our students make, and the destinations that our students go on to; many of our students have challenging backgrounds and low prior attainment on intake and so we are the beacon of hope for their futures. We believe that a high quality education leads not only to transformative exam results for students, but also in great character development. We want students to feel that they belong in our school and develop their sense of self-worth alongside an understanding of the positive impact they can have on those around them.

Together We Achieve Success is our motto and the driving force for our school. Our students thrive because our staff are dedicated to students’ success; to building positive relationships; and to collaborating and working as a team within a supportive environment. We are a school with a heart and soul, and we believe our job is to give our students the best possible chances in life, creating some fantastic lifelong memories along the way.

Our Physical Health Faculty is forward looking and innovative with an excellent reputation for maximising individual student potential and is a strength within our school. It consists of 6 members of staff led by a Faculty Team Leader who is supported by two Assistant Faculty Team Leaders one with responsibility for Health and Social Care. Last year BTEC Sport achieved 23% 7+ grades and 72% 4+ whilst Health and Social Care achieved 36% 7+ and 89% 4+ both from a cohort below National Average on entry.

Our Humanities Faculty is forward looking and innovative with an excellent reputation for maximising individual student potential and is a strength within our school. It consists of ten members of staff led by a Faculty Team Leader who is supported by a Deputy Faculty Team Leader, a Head of Geography, a Head of History and a Head of Ethics. We are passionate about geography. Our programme of learning teaches our students about the physical and human processes that interact to create distinct places. We achieve this through a range of pedagogical approaches that brings geography to life within our classrooms. In addition, students get the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom through completing fieldwork. Geography is a very popular option at KS4.

We work hard to recruit the best and then we support them to be even better. Our internal promotion record is impressive, even our Head Teacher started with us as an NQT. We engage extensively with local ITT providers, including Teach First and Researchers into School, and provide an excellent ECF support programme and a strong and well-evaluated programme of professional learning. Our teachers are always learners and as such role model everything we want for our students. Therefore, if you want a forward thinking, dynamic school to take your career to the next level, we would welcome your application.

We are committed to keeping children and young people safe from harm and abuse and to promoting their welfare, and we expect that everyone who comes to work for us will share the same commitment.

All roles within the school are covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975, and are subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Ofsted Rating: Good in March 2020

Full details and an application form are available from the school website. The ability to teach a second subject would be an advantage, so please reflect this in your application.
