Bedminster Down School is looking for an excellent teacher and leader to join the school as the Curriculum Team Leader for Design. The successful candidate will be joining a large Curriculum Team, which encompasses the disciplines of art and technology. You will line manage three experienced and highly skilled TLR holders within your team who can be relied upon to support you with improving the quality of education in Design. As a classroom practitioner, you will deliver a number of disciplines across design to students across the ability range in KS3 and KS4. You are likely to specialize heavily in either the art or technology suite of subjects, depending on your background and skillset. Whilst we are genuinely keen to receive applications from specialists in any area of art or technology, applications from specialists in art or photography will be looked on favourably.

Our design curriculum is rooted in high expectations of all students, with a focus on providing a diverse range of rich and interesting projects which will allow students to express themselves, whilst consistently embedding the core knowledge that makes students the artists, engineers and Michelin Star chefs of the future. Our building is fantastically well apportioned; no design lessons take place outside of bespoke practical spaces, which include our dark room for photography and kiln room for pottery. We believe strongly in providing a full KS3 experience to all of our young people, so the design curriculum remains broad until the end of Year 9, when students begin their KS4 options. As a result of the experience that students have in KS3, design is the most popular KS4 curriculum area, with multiple options classes running in almost every discipline. We work closely with the other Futura secondary schools to develop our shared curriculum, to share the best resources and to identify the best teaching practice and share this pedagogical knowledge between schools. We have a strong belief in the power of high-quality teaching and learning to change the lives of our students and we have developed highly effective lesson structures and pedagogical approaches which drive progress in every lesson.

We operate a ‘Ready to Learn’ behaviour system in the school. Our consistent approach to behavior management ensures that any low-level disruption is dealt with rapidly and effectively. Our senior and pastoral teams manage the rare incidents of highly challenging behavior and permanently staff the behavior support rooms. This means that, as a teacher at Bedminster Down School, you have the ability to spend your work time on planning and delivering lessons which will maximize engagement and progress, as well as providing high quality feedback to your students.

In return we offer:

  • A competitive salary
  • A full and varied CPD programme offering teaching and leadership development for our staff
  •  An opportunity to work in a supportive team from whom you can learn, develop and grow
  • Wider opportunities to be involved across the Futura Learning Partnership
  • An energised and professional working environment
  •  Benefits include; pension scheme, discounted sports centre/gym membership, free wellbeing support & medical cover, free on-site parking and cycle to work scheme.
