It gives me great pleasure to extend to you the warmest of welcomes to the Brighton Hill Community School Career Site. I’ve been fortunate enough to be the Headteacher of this extraordinary school since January 2017, during which time, we have achieved some incredible things, not least growing the school from 502 students on roll to the 1285 we have today. Each and every one of these students brings something special to this school. Their bright yellow shirts are an unmistakable badge of honour; they belong to the famous #YellowArmy and they are proud to do so. In fact, during our most recent Ofsted inspection, it was noted that “Pupils are eager to explain why they believe that Brighton Hill is such a special school.”
Most visitors comment on how happy and engaged our students are and it is clear for anyone to see that they are living embodiments of our four cornerstones: Commitment, Courage, Collaboration and Kindness. As Ofsted themselves said in our report, “The importance of kindness is at the heart of the school’s ethos.”
We have extremely high expectations and are committed to Making Success Inevitable for every single student in our care. Our curriculum aims to inspire a thirst for learning within our school culture, in which students are committed to making outstanding progress and achieving excellence, supported at all times by our exceptional team of staff.
Pastoral care is an integral part of our work here at Brighton Hill Community School; we were the first school in the UK to win a national BETT Award for technology, courtesy of our Mental Health and Wellbeing app for students called “My Teen Mind”. In addition, our pastoral staff are ably assisted by our many varied teams of student leaders, who have won national acclaim for their forward-thinking expertise. We are proud that our school was described by inspectors as “welcoming and inclusive” and a place where “lessons are calm and focused”.
It is impossible to capture the true spirit of our school in a single piece on our website, so I hope that we can welcome you for a visit to Brighton Hill Community School in the very near future.
