Welcome to the website of Cardiff West Community High School. We are an 11-19 Community focussed High School that serves the communities of Ely and Caerau in the west of Cardiff.
Our vision at Cardiff West is "Create Your World" and this embodies everything we do in the school. We want to ensure that all our pupils have the opportunities and support to enable everyone to achieve their potential and go on and play a meaningful role in society. These opportunities extend well beyond the school curriculum and can be seen in the broad range of extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities available to our pupils.
We have high expectations of our pupils to be their very best and we ensure that there are high levels of support in place to allow them to reach success. Uniform, attendance, punctuality and respect are the key pillars to success for our pupils and the partnership between home and school to support these is critical.
Our core values of ambition, resilience and trust are at the centre of what we do at Cardiff West.
We aim to be a truly community focussed school, one that opens its doors to our community and supports them in sharing our values and ethos. Our excellent facilities are available outside of the curriculum to support our cluster schools, community partners and wider user groups to ensure that our facilities are at the heart of our vibrant community.
With our improving outcomes, innovative support for pupils and excellent facilities, we strive to be the first choice for lifelong learning in our community.

The curriculum vision at Cardiff West CHS is grounded in our core values of "Ambition, Resilience, Trust". It considers the unique characteristics and needs of our pupil population, equipping them to effectively navigate the challenges of our rapidly evolving world while fostering responsibility and respect. This vision is informed by our local, regional, national, and global context, ensuring a comprehensive educational experience. The Cardiff West CHS curriculum prioritises the acquisition of knowledge and skills through a diverse range of learning experiences. This approach facilitates pupils’ progress from year 7 to year 13, preparing them for success in their chosen paths beyond school.
Cardiff West Community High School is a very caring and highly supportive school that values all young people. We believe that happy, healthy and safe pupils will succeed in school and in life and we work tirelessly to provide the environment and guidance necessary for all pupils to achieve their very best outcomes. Learning and Ethos Officers work closely with the Progress Leaders, providing care, support and guidance to pupils every day and are the first point of contact for parents.
Learning and Ethos Officers together with School Attendance & Safeguarding Officers also support young people and their families with challenges connected to coming to school and being on time.
