Chestnut Primary school

Chestnut Park is a new primary school that serves the community of North End in Yatton. North Somerset Council project managed the design and build of the new school. The school is part of the Clevedon Learning Trust.

The school opened in September 2021 with a Reception class. The school will grow to 210 pupils, with scope to increase its capacity to meet future demand from local housing development. The school also opened a Preschool in January 2022.

"Chestnut Park is a creative and innovative place of learning where children are encouraged to be as successful as they can be in all that they do. We want the pupils to develop lively and enquiring minds and to acquire knowledge and skills relevant to a fast changing world. We are eager to work in partnership with families and the local community to support the children, enabling them to develop and flourish, fulfilling their potential at school and in life as good citizens.”

“The strength of our Trust is our ability to work as a family of schools who are connected by shared values and our relentless focus on delivering an excellent education to every child in every school. Being a part of our wider Trust family provides individual support and guidance for our schools."

Our Vision and Values

At Chestnut Park Primary School we put children at the heart of every decision we make and every action we take. We offer innovative learning opportunities that will inspire curiosity, develop inquiring minds and maximise learning potential for all children.

Our ASPIRE Curriculum is underpinned by our curriculum drivers - Inspire, Innovate, Impact.

The curriculum ensures that every child at Chestnut Park Primary School will Aspire, Advance and Achieve.

Aspire, Advance, Achieve

Our ambitious ASPIRE curriculum will help children to gain an advantage, so that they can maximise their learning, ensuring they are empowered to excel in their future life choices.

We are limitless in our aspirations and ambition for the children at Chestnut Park. By working in unison with parents and the wider community we will ensure that children are guided to make conscious, positive choices to achieve extraordinary things.

By providing an interconnected curriculum focused on the sequential development of knowledge and skills, all children will progress and advance in their learning to enable individual aspirations to be achieved. By focusing on each child’s personal learning journey we will maximum progress and long term learning for all children.

Immersion in a knowledge enriched curriculum will guarantee children develop vocabulary and skills as well as developing the essential ‘Exceptional Learner Attributes’ – motivation, resilience, curiosity, courage, communication and connection that support them becoming ‘Star Learners’. We will support pupils to display positive leaning behaviours by equipping them to be ‘ready to learn’. Pupils will have been taught the dispositions and behaviours that enable them and others to listen, engage and contribute when being taught.

We will foster a culture of ‘perseverance’ and learning from mistakes. All children will be encouraged to participate through verbal (paired talk) and non-verbal means (whiteboards, show me activities) as this develops an inclusive environment where everyone can achieve.

Children are encouraged to be independent, reflective and responsible for their learning and teachers build strategies to help the children to evaluate their own work and others work so that they can identify their successes and next steps.

Children will develop important skills that transcend subject disciplines and enable them to excel in life: problem solving, analysing and synthesising information; creativity and showing personal expression; research skills; aural, oral and written communication; leadership, teamwork and collaboration so they can flourish whilst at school and beyond.

By prioritising equitable learning experiences, every very child at Chestnut Park will know the feeling of success. By recognising each child’s unique and personal learning journey we prioritise their needs and remain unwavering in our ambitions for them.

Within a limitless education, we are incredibly optimistic and determined to see every child maximise their potential to achieve. ‘Learning without Limits’ is central to our approach. Entwined in our ‘Limitless’ approach are the following features:

  • Our attitude, approach and expectations will be limitless.
  • We will embrace individuality and personalise ambitious opportunities.
  • Prior learning and next steps will be carefully planned to guarantee achievement.
  • Pupil outcomes will be exceptional because themed enquires are led by developmental goals.
  • Practice is driven by educational research to ensure positive impacts.

We will celebrate all children’s individual achievement and welcome parents to support us in Staring their children’s success both in and beyond school. We will promote pride in personal and collective achievement and ensure that all pupils know the feelings that success evokes, especially when shared with others.

Children at Chestnut Park will leave primary school believing anything is possible. They will be goal focused, action orientated, naturally ambitious and self-determined. They will know the feeling of success throughout their learning and demonstrate pride in the outcomes they have created and we are proud of them all.

Pupil’s aspirations will be further developed through our HEART values as they become genuinely kind and inspirational individuals:
