EXAM INVIGILATOR

Casual Contract

£12.09 per hour

(£10.79 per hour plus £1.30 per hour holiday pay)

Chew Valley School is a thriving and successful school, and we are seeking the right person to assist

us in achieving even greater success.

The school has been through change in recent years including joining the Lighthouse Schools

Partnership (LSP) Multi Academy Trust alongside a number of our feeder schools and Gordano and

Backwell secondary schools. Through this we are developing much work of a mutually beneficial

nature.

The school has a distinctive character and ethos which is unashamedly child-centred and emotionally

intelligent in the way relationships are managed between staff, parents/carers, students, and governors.

Job Purpose

To participate in conducting internal and external examinations for students, ensuring that all JCQ

regulatory requirements for the conduct of examinations are strictly adhered to.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


 To check the examination room prior to the arrival of candidates to ensure that:

  •  Heating, lighting, ventilation, and levels of extraneous noise are acceptable
  •  No display materials that might be helpful to candidates are visible
  •  A reliable clock of readable size is visible to each candidate
  •  All mandatory posters: Warning to Candidates, No Mobile Phones and Silence Examination in progress are displayed outside the examination room
  •  The seating cards are laid out in accordance with the seating plan as provided by the

Exams Officer

  •  All necessary papers/materials are in the exams tray as provided by the Exams Officer.
  • To be fully aware of the regulations according to “The Instructions for Conducting Examinations” (the yellow “ICE” booklet).
  • To ensure that a signed record is kept of the seating and invigilation arrangements for any examination session that you participate in and that any incidents, toilet breaks, or poor
  • Behaviour is recorded and advised to the Exams Officer at the end.
  • To take all reasonable steps to ensure that:
  • The official examination stationery is issued to candidates and that no other stationery, including paper for rough work, is provided 
  • Candidates take into the examination room only those articles, instruments or materials which are expressly permitted
  • Candidates have all the necessary materials to enable them to complete the examination
  • Mobile phones, all watches, iPod, MP3 players and any other devices with data storage facilities are removed and not brought into the exam room.
  • To open the packet of examination papers and issue the papers to candidates ensuring it is the correct paper and tier of entry i.e., Higher/Foundation.
  • Do not allow any teaching staff access to the exam papers and do not allow them to issue any instructions, coaching or guidance in the exam room prior to the start of exams.
  • Any announcements offering help or support must be carried out outside the exam venue.
  • Be aware that the JCQ Inspector may visit unannounced and will be allowed access to the exam room accompanied by the

Exams Officer.

  • We would expect you to challenge their identity should this occur.
  • To give clear instructions to candidates about the conduct of the examination to ensure that they fully understand what they are required to do.
  • To supervise the candidates throughout the whole time the examination is in progress and give complete attention at all times. This may include helping with laptops or calling for ICT support.
  • Intervening when poor behaviour or disruption is first noticed and issue a warning to the student(s) involved and use the Red Card system – record all incidents.
  • To be aware of any candidates with an illness or special provisions in place and deal with these students in a confidential, sensitive and tactful manner.
  • To complete the attendance register during the examination and inform the Exams Office of any absentees immediately.
  • To know the actions to be taken in the event of an emergency such as an emergency evacuation.
  • At the end of the examination, to collate all scripts in candidate number order and ensure that they are handed to the Exams Officer only.
  • To collect all unused stationery and equipment in the examination room and return it to the

Exams Office.

  •  To ensure that the room is left in a tidy condition.
  • To attend regular Invigilator training in accordance with the JCQ rules.
  • To attend annual Safeguarding and Prevent training.
  • Any other duties that are deemed reasonable within your job role
