The school is situated 8 miles south of Bristol between the villages of Chew Magna and Chew Stoke. It stands on a 30-acre site in open countryside overlooking Chew Valley Lake. The school buildings are surrounded by very pleasant grounds and landscaped gardens. There are extensive playing fields and tennis courts. We celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2008.
The school buildings were largely completed in four stages and the school is now well equipped with specialist rooms for all subjects. Computing facilities are well developed and our Science and Design Technology suites are also equipped with state of the art technology.
The school serves the 120 square miles of the Chew Valley but regularly attracts pupils from Bristol. The Local Authority's Admission Number of 196 usually includes up to 50 students who join the school from beyond the area of prime responsibility.
Chew Valley School joined the Lighthouse Schools Partnership Multi-Academy Trust on 1st February 2018. The Lighthouse Schools Partnership exists both to promote the sharing of excellence and capacity and to support each school in maintaining its own identity and ethos.
The school is founded on a commitment to enable all of our students to learn, grow and achieve. The school is rightly proud of its students and their achievements and we look to continue to provide an environment where they are stimulated and supported in equal measure.
Many visitors to the school comment that it is immediately obvious that people and relationships matter at Chew Valley. It is important to us that students are able to thrive in an environment where ambition and a sense of achieving one’s best is harnessed alongside developing the values of integrity and supporting others. The school has a reputation for both its academic performance and for the wide range of extra-curricular opportunities which are available for the students to enjoy and at the same time develop the important attributes of confidence, teamwork and leadership.
