About Us

WHO WE ARE

Critchill School is an establishment which provides education for approximately 80 pupils who have complex and severe learning needs. All of our pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan and we have a very wide range of abilities within our pupil population.

Each pupil’s needs is carefully and individually evaluated, so that within the context of our well-developed and profoundly personalised curriculum, all of our pupils can aspire to reach exceptional standards.

We believe that pupils should enjoy school and have fun while they learn. Our staff are committed to work as a team to provide the opportunity for a specialist education, enabling all children to develop a full range of academic, functional and independent skills. We are ever keen to work with parents, carers, other stakeholders and professionals to ensure continuity of approach

The school is situated on the outskirts of Frome within ‘green’ and spacious grounds.

Over recent years we have completed major updates to learning spaces, specialist resource areas and our playground.

We are a forward looking special school that recognises that all of our pupils can achieve their full potential.

Volunteering/Work Experience

If you have enthusiasm, energy, openness to working with children and young adults with learning disabilities and feel like a challenge then this might be the right opportunity for you.

Please be aware that we receive a high number of requests for volunteering and work experience opportunities. Whilst we try to accommodate as many placements as possible this may not always be possible.

Volunteers are welcome for short-term placements or for a regular weekly slot. To volunteer you will need to fill out an application form and provide the names of two people who can give you a reference.

If you are interested in volunteering with us please email office@critchillschool.com and we will send you an application form.

Prior to a placement offer we would carry out an interview to give you the opportunity to visit the school and discuss what possible options.

Safeguarding

We take our responsibilities around safeguarding very seriously so all volunteers are carefully interviewed and selected to meet our students' needs. You will also be required to apply for enhanced clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service which will be arranged through the school.

NB: Unfortunately we are unable to accept relatives or siblings of current Critchill students or any young person under the age of 16.

PART OF MIDSOMER NORTON SCHOOLS PARTNERSHIP

The Midsomer Norton Schools' Partnership was founded in 2009 following the hard federation between Norton Hill and Somervale Secondary Schools. Since this point the Trust has grown to include other secondary schools and a large number of primary schools, which are all located in the Southwest of England: Bath and North East Somerset, Somerset and North Somerset. The full list of schools that are members of the Trust are shown above.

Midsomer Norton Schools' Partnership provides support and challenge to all of our schools so that our entire community of children and young people can achieve their best. The unique character of each school is celebrated and nurtured to ensure choice and variety in educational provision. The Trust is committed to providing a broad, balanced and aspirational curriculum in all of its schools, so that all children and young people develop the character and qualifications needed to open doors to their future success. A strong focus on developing and providing inspirational teaching and leadership in all schools, through school-to-school improvement, ensures outstanding progress and educational enjoyment for all members of our partnership’s community.
