  • To arrive at centre half an hour before the examination start time
  • To allocate invigilators to rows for collection and distribution of papers
  • If your location has only one examination and all the candidates are in that location, you should be given the register to complete
  • Be aware of the evacuation procedure and ensure that your invigilators on duty are also aware
  • You must inform the exams officer if any invigilators you should have are not present
  • You must ensure mobile phones are switched off and handed in
  • You must not start your information announcement if there are candidates waiting to be seated
  • You must ensure the relevant signs and a copy of ‘Joint Council Qualification Instructions for conducting examinations’ is present in the examination room
  • You must allow candidates into the examination room with sufficient time for a prompt start at start times of examinations (morning and afternoon) – see Exams Routines document.
  • It is your responsibility to report to the exams officer if you feel there has been any breach of security. If this occurs, we will inform and advise the head of centre who is then responsible for completing a report for the examining body.
  • Ensure all the scripts are collected and collated in register order before handing over to the Examinations Officer.
  • To co-ordinate checking of desks for graffiti.

  • Remind candidates to switch off their mobile phone and hand them in
  • Tell candidates to check they have the correct question paper and relevant stationary including pens, pencils, rulers etc. should be in a see-through case
  • Advise candidates that they should raise their hand if they need anything
  • Candidates must read the front of the question paper and complete the answer booklet as directed
  • For examinations of different lengths you must remind candidates to be quiet until they are clear of the examination room as there are other candidates still working
