This is a truly comprehensive school serving both disadvantaged and highly affluent communities. We are committed to providing outstanding education for all in a safe, happy, and positive learning environment.

The Role

King Ecgbert School is seeking to appoint a highly skilled and talented Teacher of Science with a Chemistry specialism. This is a 1FTE role fixed term for 1 year to commence September 2024.

The Candidate

Ambitious for learning and a team player, you will have the vision, enthusiasm, and drive to build on the strong foundations that already exist in the department. Innovative and resilient you will have an unwavering commitment to student progress.

We are looking for staff who are enthusiastic and are keen to make a difference.

You'll be eager to learn and work well with others, and you'll bring the vision, enthusiasm, and determination needed to enhance the already solid department. You'll also be inventive with a strong dedication to student progress.

We are seeking candidates who are dedicated to serving a diverse community and bring with them experiences and viewpoints that will enhance our efforts.

Additional information about the Science Department

The science department is staffed with 17 highly qualified subject specialist teachers, combining experience, energy and commitment. This makes the science department a dynamic and exciting place to work. The department is supported by three highly qualified and experienced technicians.

The department is housed in a modern suite of eleven laboratories, one curriculum base and two preparation rooms along an entire wing of the school. Each teaching laboratory has an interactive whiteboard, and one of the laboratories is kept as a dry computer suite.

The department works closely as a team and continually review and modify the curriculum to serve the varied needs and aspirations of the students of the school. Department members are expected to make a full contribution to all aspects of the work of the department and to lead in particular projects.

Experienced members of the department are given a varied timetable that covers the age and ability range of the school. Department members teach all aspects of science in KS3, mainly their subject specialisms at KS4 and only their subject specialism at KS5. ECTs can expect to teach a mixture of KS3 and KS4 lessons initially, with KS5 being added into their timetable in future years.

We offer Combined Science and Triple Science at GCSE, with approximately 50% of the cohort opting on to each course. At sixth form level, we offer A levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics plus level three BTEC in Applied Science.

We are also very keen on creating enrichment opportunities within Science; each year we run a trip to CERN in Geneva, an A level Biology field course at the North Yorkshire coast alongside other extra-curricular activities such as entering a team in the Top of the Bench Chemistry competition and Olympiad competitions.

Examination results at GCSE and A level are outstanding.
