Job Title: Teaching Assistant (Specialist in Visual Impairment)
Job Location: Clee Hill Community Academy
Contract: Fixed term post (to support a child for the duration of their education within the school)
Hours: 15.00 hours per week, term time only. Hours to be worked 9.00 am to 12.00 pm Monday to Friday (flexibility available for the right candidate)
Salary: SC4 (7 – 11) £26,403 - £28,142 (pro rata for hours and weeks worked). Actual annual pay for hours indicated £8,970.74 - £9,561.59

About the role:
We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant with a specialist focus on supporting children with visual impairments. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced practitioner who is committed to inclusive education and ensuring that all pupils can access the curriculum effectively.
The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers, the SENCo, and external professionals to provide tailored support to pupils with visual impairment, enabling them to achieve their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally.
The key responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant will be to:
• Follow specific programmes of work under the direction of the Qualified Teacher of Visually Impaired Children and Young People (QTVI) and the Specialist IT Officer
• Provide targeted one-to-one support to a pupil with visual impairments
• Adapt learning materials into accessible formats, including braille and tactile resources
• Support the delivery of an inclusive curriculum that meets individual pupil needs
• Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
• Liaise effectively with teaching staff, parents, and relevant external agencies
• Promote independence, confidence, and wellbeing in pupils
• Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and support strategies
Our successful candidate will have the following experience, skillset and qualifications:
RNIB Certificate in Contracted Unified English Braille (UEB) or a willingness to study to complete the Certificate
• Proven experience working with children with visual impairments
• A strong working knowledge of braille (essential)
• Understanding of inclusive teaching practices and SEND provision
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
• Patience, empathy, and a commitment to supporting all learners
• Competence in using IT and a willingness to learn how to use new technology.
This role reports to the Headteacher.

Our school is located in the small South Shropshire town of Clee Hill which is surrounded by rolling hills and beautiful countryside.
