Greenshaw High School is a highly over-subscribed 11-19 comprehensive school situated in Sutton, south-west London, and is part of the Greenshaw Learning Trust. Greenshaw has a reputation for providing a dynamic education within a happy and caring environment, and we are proud of our successes as a genuine comprehensive school. We are committed to achieving the best for the youngsters in our care, refusing to accept that there is a limit on what can be achieved. We are ambitious for our school and the professional development of our staff is at the forefront of our improvement. We are also the home of the Greenshaw Research School, funded by the EEF to help schools make better use of research to improve the quality of teaching and learning and raise student outcomes across the country.

Greenshaw is looking for a highly motivated and committed individual, with the ability to inspire staff and students, to take up the post of Religious Studies Key Stage 3 Co-ordinator. You will have excellent subject knowledge and a genuine passion for teaching Religious Studies with detailed knowledge of current curriculum and pedagogical developments in RS and the wider curriculum. The desire, determination and proven ability to raise overall achievement in Religious Studies through promoting the highest standards of teaching and learning is essential. The successful candidate will lead the department’s work on monitoring, evaluating, reviewing and developing the design and delivery of the Key Stage 3 curriculum and Schemes of Work, ensuring that all students at Key Stage 3 are given appropriate levels of academic challenge. They will play a central role in the department, supporting colleagues to maintain high expectations around teaching, learning and behaviour. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established and successful department and make a significant contribution to its ambitious vision for the future.

The Religious Studies department is a forward thinking, lively and positive team comprised of experienced specialist teachers. Our aim is to ensure that all students think critically about their beliefs and the views of others, and engage fully in developing as responsible, respectful and informed young people. All students at Greenshaw study Religious Studies in Years 7 to 9. In Year 10 and 11, students study a course entitled Social and Religious Studies, which prepares them for the AQA Specification A Religious Studies GCSE, focusing on Christian and Islamic beliefs and practices, and philosophical and ethical themes. RS remains a very popular subject in Sixth Form where we offer AQA Philosophy A-Level covering Epistemology, Moral Philosophy and Metaphysics. Results at both GCSE and A Level are consistently excellent.

We believe that Religious Studies offers a unique opportunity to prepare students for living in an increasingly diverse society. We encourage our students to examine their own beliefs; analyse a variety of views; consider life’s big philosophical questions; and examine their own decision-making and behaviour through a study of contemporary issues. We invite students to look at issues within their own local community, across the wider UK and then internationally through topical case studies. Our goal is to shape the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of students; to build community cohesion on a local and national level; to promote equal opportunities; to encourage diversity; and to develop in our students the critical thinking and writing skills essential to success in the workplace.
