The Opportunity

Haberdashers’ Monmouth School is seeking to appoint a full time Teacher of Economics on a fixed-term contract from May 2026 to March 2027, in the first instance.

The successful applicant will be a well qualified, highly motivated, and innovative Economics teacher, possessing excellent subject knowledge and the ability to confidently teach A Level.

This is a temporary full time position, however, we warmly welcome applications from candidates seeking flexible working arrangements, including part time options.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high quality A Level Economics teaching, ensuring students are well prepared for external examinations and supported to achieve their full potential.

• Plan and deliver engaging, challenging lessons that stretch all learners and contribute to the development of departmental schemes of work and resources.

• Assess, track and report on student progress, providing clear feedback to pupils, parents and colleagues to support academic development.

• Uphold the school’s ethos and responsibilities, including safeguarding, and maintaining high standards of behaviour

The Department

The Economics and Business Department at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School is a strong, successful, and well-established department with a team of highly experienced and motivated teachers. Economics is one of the most popular A Level options in the Sixth Form, attracting aspirational, academically able students who enjoy rigorous debate, independent thinking, and engagement with real-world economic issues. Students study WJEC A Level Economics, with examinations taken at the end of Year 12 and Year 13. Class sizes are small allowing for highly academic teaching, close individual support and strong outcomes. The department has an excellent track record of examination success and academic enrichment. Students regularly participate in national and international competitions and initiatives.

About You

You will be an inspiring and well qualified Economics specialist with a strong track record of excellent teaching, confident classroom management and a genuine commitment to pupil progress and wellbeing. Highly motivated, collaborative and adaptable, you bring excellent communication skills, a warm pastoral instinct and a commitment to the school’s safeguarding responsibilities. There may be opportunities to teach A Level Business and experience in this subject would be beneficial, though not essential.
